10 Best Babyfaces From WWE's Attitude Era, Ranked

WWE’s Attitude Era was arguably the peak of WWE. Every week felt must-watch and the amount of star power on display was something never seen before in professional wrestling. Throughout the era there were certain names who were insanely popular among fans, and those babyfaces helped lead the charge in what became the most exciting time in the business.

With all the babyface and heel turns that took place and due to the sheer amount of names who were present during this time, it can be quite difficult to rank the best babyfaces of the Attitude Era, especially with so many different factors to consider. It may be subjective, but regardless here are the best good guys of the Attitude Era.

10 Lita

Team Xtreme WWF Tag Team Champions and Women's Champion Cropped

Plain and simple, Lita was cool. She was different to most of the women in WWE at the time with her more rugged nature and willingness to put her body at risk, particularly during the TLC matches as part of Team Xtreme.

Fans were red hot for Lita despite the lack of focus on women’s wrestling at times. She would begin her legendary feud with Trish Stratus during the Attitude Era too, in which she was originally a babyface.

9 Too Cool

Too Cool Royal Rumble 2000

Too Cool were never a game-changing act in WWE, but they had a huge amount of support from fans, so they have to be included here. Grand Master Sexay & Scotty “Too Hotty” were originally heels, but upon Rikishi joining forces, they became good guys.

Their dancing alone was one of the most over things in the company, and the little quirks and additions to their act such as the Stink Face and The Worm became iconic. They would get a big push eventually, feuding with the likes of DX and even won some championship gold too.

8 Ken Shamrock

It can be argued that Ken Shamrock should’ve gotten a bigger push in the Attitude Era, as he had an aura of legit toughness that would have made him a great world champion.

The comeuppance he gave to heels was also great to see, and fans connected with him (even if it took some time). He was a great foe to the Nation of Domination and eventually The Corporation when he broke free from the faction.

7 Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho and Chyna

Chris Jericho debuted as a heel and spent quite a lot of time during the Attitude Era as a bad guy, however his stint as a babyface was so good that he deserves to be included amongst the best of that time period.

His alliance with Chyna turned him face as their act was very entertaining. His first feud with Triple H was great, and the way he ran down Stephanie McMahon on the mic helped to make him a bigger star as fans could not get enough of it. He was a pivotal part of the midcard during 2000 and 2001 as a good guy.

6 Chyna

Chyna was a heel for a lot of the Attitude Era, but when she turned babyface she became one of the most over women in WWE history. Seeing her go toe-to-toe with the men on the roster, going on to win the Intercontinental Championship, was so badass that fans went crazy for her.

She didn’t even have to try too hard to get this sort of support, which is why it makes her even more impressive as a babyface. The “Ninth Wonder of the World” had popular partnerships with both Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero too.

5 Kane

Shane McMahon and Kane v X-Pac and Triple H Raw February 15 1999 Cropped

Kane debuted as a terrifying silent monster who felt larger than life. A few years into the Attitude Era though and he had already proven to showcase a range of emotions which made him feel more human, but this led to a great babyface run.

After it was revealed that The Undertaker was the one behind the fire of their family home, Kane became a sympathetic monster. His alliance with X-Pac was so much fun, and when X-Pac turned on him, it drove more sympathy from fans again. Additionally, his look was super cool and the way he dominated opponents was entertaining to see, and fans got behind it.

4 The Hardy Boyz

Edge & Christian v Dudley Boyz v Hardy Boyz SummerSlam 2000 Cropped-2

From a character perspective, The Hardy Boyz weren’t as well-rounded as some other massive stars, but they still managed to make themselves one of the most beloved acts in the company.

It was their death-defying antics in gimmick matches and “cool” aura which they carried that got fans screaming for them. They were one of the teams who helped to carry the tag team division, making this era of tag team wrestling one which fans look back on fondly. Matt and Jeff were natural good guys and rose to prominence here.

3 The Rock

The Rock played both heel and babyface during the Attitude Era, both to huge success. As a babyface, his ability to trash talk on heels was massively fun and entertaining, and it is this sort of charisma that led him to Hollywood fame in later years.

Whether it be his own battles with authority figures or teaming up with Mankind in an unlikely yet perfect duo, The Rock was among the greatest babyfaces of the Attitude Era (whilst also being one of the best heels too during his time in the Corporation), though he wasn’t quite number one.

2 Mick Foley

Mankind Wins World Title Cropped

No matter what face of Foley he pulled on, Mick Foley was such an incredible babyface during the Attitude Era. Initially as the more endearing Mankind, he shed off his darker personality for a funnier and more sympathetic character.

His feud with The Rock was sensational, and his WWE Title win is among the best moments in Monday Night Raw history. As Cactus Jack, his wars with Triple H were legendary with fans getting behind him no matter what. Foley had a connection to the fans like not many others, and a big part of that was due to him not looking like a typical “WWE guy”.

1 “Stone Cold” Steve Austin

Steve Austin WWE Champion Raw June 1998 Cropped

There is no argument at all on who the greatest babyface of the Attitude Era is. In fact, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin might very well be the best babyface in WWE history. His anti-authority, no nonsense, trash talking personality was one which was insanely entertaining, and it was impossible to not root for him.

He wasn’t a Greek god like the top guys who came before him, representing more of an everyman and a brawler, but that just fit his gimmick perfectly. His feud with Mr. McMahon helped to define the Attitude Era, with it carrying WWE to victory in the Monday Night Wars.
