10 Chael Sonnen Quotes That UFC Fans Will Never Forget

When one thinks of the greatest trash talkers in UFC history, there are a couple of names that automatically come to mind. However, there is no name that will overshadow "The American Gangster", from West Linn, Oregon. That's referring to the Bad Guy, Chael P. Sonnen, and the P stands for perfection.

Sonnen may have never won a world title, but he has a legacy that may last even longer than that of my champions due to his one-liners and his trash talk that will be played for years and years. With being one of the greatest talkers ever, there are many lines that fans could never forget.

10 "You must have caught me on a low day."

Chael Sonnen notably tested positive for elevated testosterone levels following his first bout with Anderson Silva at UFC 117. Sonnen seemed to own up to the failure though and was actually surprised it was so low.

"My phone rings, they call me up and say, 'Chael, your testosterone level is too high.' I say, 'Well, how high was it?' They say, '0.7.' I said, 'What's normal?' They say, '0.6.'; I said, 'One-tenth? You're telling me I'm one-tenth higher than the average man? Re-test that - you must have caught me on a low day.'"

9 "He tried to feed a bus a carrot."

During Sonnen's feud with Anderson Silva, he was simultaneously targeting all of Brazil. Along the way, the Nogueira brothers who were friends with Silva came into his sights and he told a true tale of the Nogueira brother's adventures in Las Vegas.

"I was in Las Vegas when the Nogueira brothers first touched down in America. There was a bus, this is a true story. There was a bus that pulled up to a red light, and Little Nog tried to feed it a carrot, while Big Nog was petting it. He thought it was a horse. This really happened. He tried to feed a bus a carrot, and now you're telling me this country has computers? I didn't know that."

8 "I will do a home invasion on you."

Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva's heated rivalry was supposed to come to a head at UFC 175. While the fight didn't happen at the event, Sonnen still dropped an all-time great line during the leadup to the bout, promising to see Silva outside the cage.

"Listen Wanderlei, I will do a home invasion on you. I will cut the power to your house and the next thing you'll hear is me climbing up your stairs in a pair of night vision goggles I bought in the back of Soldier of Fortune magazine. I'll pick the lock to the master room door, take a picture of you in bed with the Nogueira brothers working on your 'jiu-jitsu'. I'll take said quote unquote photograph, post it at dorksfrombrazil.com, password - not required, username - not required. That, Wanderlei, is how you threaten someone. Dummy."

7 "Finders keepers, losers weepers."

Despite Anderson Silva winning the first bout with Chael Sonnen, Sonnen did not recognize the bout as him having lost. As a result, he carried around his own middleweight championship and had a big answer to anyone who questioned him about it.

"Well, for those of you who can't see, this is the championship belt that I took from Anderson Silva. In this country, possession is 9/10 of the law. Finders keepers, losers weepers. If he wants it back, he knows where he can find it."

6 "Using my money to get my opportunities."

Chael Sonnen tore Tito Ortiz apart without much effort during their pre-fight press conferences. However, there is one line that clearly stands out above all others that were brutal, one that poked fun at Ortiz's former girlfriend, adult film actress Jenna Jameson.

“Tito always says I'm using my mouth to get my opportunities. The only person I know that made money using their mouth was his ex-wife.”

5 "I actually held public office."

Chael Sonnen is known for making loads of political references and actually ran for the Oregon House of Representatives in 2010. Sonnen dropped out of the race, and years later made reference to his failed political run and his crime issues.

"I actually held public office and I left the only way a person should in handcuffs."

4 "Jon Jones, a potted cactus, and a slice of pizza."

Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones don't get along, to put it mildly. The build-up to their bout at UFC 159 was heated, and Sonnen didn't seem to take his intelligence very seriously.

"If Jon Jones, a potted cactus, and a slice of pizza from my oven were all on Jeopardy, Jon Jones would not make the final round."

3 "Oh, I want to thank God."

Chael Sonnen is a man of faith. However, that doesn't mean that he wants to think of God after his wins, and he especially doesn't understand those that do.

"You know, these guys want to talk about God. ‘Oh, I want to thank God. I want to thank God.’ Listen, I’m a God-fearing man, go to church every Sunday and have since I was a boy. But if I ever found out that God cared one way or another about a borderline illegal fist-fight on Saturday night, I would be so greatly disappointed that it would make rethink my entire belief system."

2 "Still tough enough to beat this guy."

To say that Chael Sonnen was confident heading into bouts is putting it lightly. His first bout against Anderson Silva at UFC 117 was no different.

"I'm sore, tired, under the weather, overtrained, under-motivated and still tough enough to beat this guy."

1 "Failure is not an option."

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Chael Sonnen may be a good trash talker, he may be a tremendous comedian, but his quote about failure on The Ultimate Fighter is one of the few times that Sonnen pulls back the curtain and shows his true colors as one of the best competitors in the game.

"When doubt seeps in, you got two roads, you can take either road. You can go to the left or you can go to the right and believe me, they'll tell you failure is not an option. That is ridiculous. Failure is always an option. Failure is the most readily available option at all times, but it's a choice. You can choose to fail or you can choose to succeed. And if we can plant seeds and let him know, ‘Move your feet, keep your hands up, stay off the bottom.' That is the road to victory, or self-doubt and negative talk, and that is the road to failure. But failure is always there, and it's okay to recognize that. If I can leave you with anything today, in my long journey through this is, one: it's okay. Two: it's normal. And as athletes and especially as men, as male athletes we hate to admit weakness to ourselves, and when you're dealing with something and you got some kind of a hiccup, yeah, first thing is acknowledge it."
