Extreme Rules has become the official pay-per-view WWE uses to deliver multiple hardcore matches. The event allows feuds to have a huge blowoff match using weapons or violent platforms to end things strong. Some of the best moments and matches in WWE have come on this event due to the bigger match stipulations in play.

Most major WWE shows will see some strange things coming into play when looking back at the history. Extreme Rules is no different when the moments that lacked common sense or logic led to confusion. WWE has made more than a couple of mistakes when booking the annual show. Without further ado, let's find out which things made no sense in WWE when it came to the Extreme Rules PPV.
10 Mixed Tag Match For Two Top Singles Titles
The idea of two singles titles being on the line in a tag match is already flawed by nature, but WWE made it even worse at Extreme Rules 2019. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch both felt their real relationship was rushed on television in a regretful manner.

The feuds with Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans respectively turned into a mixed tag match with the Universal Championship and Raw Women's Championship on the line. Fans were cold on the storyline, leading to a weak match. Brock Lesnar cashing in his Money in the Bank title shot on Rollins afterwards was all fans cared to talk about afterwards.
9 Cryme Tyme Facing Other
WWE made a mistake splitting up the tag team of Cryme Tyme heading into the Extreme Rules 2010 event. JTG and Shad had strong chemistry together with the fans loving them whenever they played faces.
However, the backstage heat would see WWE splitting them up to have a big strap match at Extreme Rules. JTG won the match, but nothing else came from it with minimal television time moving forward. Cryme Tyme could have accomplished a lot more together than they did breaking up in WWE.
8 Big Show Wrestling A Submission Match
The use of a submission match is typically done for wrestlers with technical sides and a plethora of submission moves. Big Show being booked to face John Cena at Extreme Rules 2009 just put them both in a difficult position.
Cena won the match as expected, but it didn’t have the appeal a match of that stipulation usually offers. WWE tried to book a pointless rematch coming off the WrestleMania 25 triple threat that also included Edge in the match.
7 James Ellsworth & Carmella Getting The Better Of Asuka
The feud between Carmella and Asuka hurt the standing of the latter in 2018. WWE booked the return of James Ellsworth one month earlier when he distracted Asuka to help Carmella retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Extreme Rules 2018 featured Ellsworth suspended above the ring, but he still provided enough of a distraction for Carmella to steal the win. This was viewed as one of the weaker times for the Women’s Division since the Women’s Evolution with a top-tier performer having her reputation harmed for a weak act.
6 No Contest Finish For Last Man Standing Match
WWE has booked the Last Man Standing match on the Extreme Rules PPV multiple times throughout the years. John Cena faced off with Ryback for the WWE Championship in 2013 after both characters endured a few changes.
Ryback turned heel and Cena was having his first WWE Championship reign in almost two years after beating The Rock. The Last Man Standing match had a terrible ending of both men being unable to answer the 10 count. Fans were livid at the venue as WWE wasted a great stipulation with the worst possible finish.
5 Big Show Losing Tables Match By Stepping On One
WWE randomly changed the rules of a tables match throughout the years. Older matches featured the winning wrestler having to hit an offensive move on the opposing talent. Big Show realized that was no longer the case at Extreme Rules 2012.

Cody Rhodes won back the Intercontinental Championship from Big Show when the giant accidentally stepped on a table when trying to get back into the ring. The referee called for the match with Big Show losing a title by accidentally breaking furniture.
4 Singing Kid Scaring John Cena Into Losing Cage Match
The feud between John Cena and Bray Wyatt in 2014 featured a handful of bizarre moments. Extreme Rules 2014 was the show where Wyatt scored his singles victory in the trilogy of matches, but this time with the steel cage stipulation.
The lights went out and a young child appeared outside of the cage singing to Cena in a creepy manner. Bray’s tactics worked as he took advantage to hit Cena and steal the victory. WWE not wanting Cena to lose cleanly led to a confusing finish that made him look worse than getting pinned cleanly.
3 Alexa Bliss Squashing Bayley
WWE hurt the chances of Bayley’s face character from NXT thriving when booking her poorly against Alexa Bliss in her first year on the main roster. Bayley won the Raw Women’s Championship, but the program losing it to Bliss killed any momentum.
Extreme Rules 2017 featured a kendo stick on a pole match with Alexa easily winning. Bliss retrieved the weapon and brutally beat Bayley in a shockingly short and decisive match. It took years for Bayley to rebound as a heel after the burial hurt her dramatically.
2 Eye For An Eye Match Stipulation
The most recent Extreme Rules 2020 event had the tagline of “The Horror Show” based on a few match stipulations. Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins faced off in the controversial Eye for an Eye match that required the winner to remove the eye of the winner.
The ridiculous concept would see Rollins scoring the win when implying he pulled Rey’s eye out of the socket. Rollins throwing up afterwards was intended to sell the finish, but it just added more embarrassment to all involved.
1 Brock Lesnar Losing First WWE Match Back
WWE received a lot of attention when Brock Lesnar returned in 2012 for the first time in over eight years. Lesnar was instantly booked into a match with John Cena main eventing the Extreme Rules 2012 PPV.
The match was a classic with both men delivering one of the best performances of their respective careers. However, everyone ended up talking about the finish rather than the match itself. Brock losing his first match back after his UFC stint felt like a joke since he was the most credible monster back in the wrestling industry.
