Well, that's typically the case anyway. Over the years, there have been some wrestlers who have taken their rivalry from the ring to the back.

Furthermore, a lot of those rivalries led to some high-profile backstage brawls. While there have been a lot of fights in professional wrestling history, these are the ten most infamous. However, some fans might not know the full story behind why these wrestlers started throwing punches for real.

Let's just get this most recent one out of the way. While it's fresh now, years from now, fans will still be discussing CM Punk's exit from AEW and his fight with Jack Perry. As some fans might know, this fight at All Out London happened because of a conversation over a glass spot some weeks prior.

As the story goes, Perry wanted to use real glass in a spot, and Punk vetoed the idea. Jungle Boy reportedly felt like the Second City Saint leaked the story to make himself feel better. As a result, he made an off-script comment referencing the scandal in his All Out pre-event match, and then fought Punk after going backstage.

9 Diamond Dallas Page Vs. Scott Steiner: Kimberly Page

In the dying days of WCW in 2000, two of their biggest stars got into a massive brawl. Backstage, Scott Steiner had chased Kimberly Page out of the arena after reporting that drugs were found backstage. He later slammed her husband, Diamond Dallas Page, in an off-script promo.

Page was watching the promo backstage, and instantly began brawling with Steiner when he came through the curtain. The naturally bigger man reportedly got a takedown and even attempted to gauge out his eyes. However, Page badly bit Steiner, and the fight was eventually broken up.

JBL was a well-known backstage bully for a lot of his career. On a flight in 2008, he reportedly took his attention to ECW announcer Joey Styles. According to the story, JBL was insulting him, but it's not known what comment sent him over the edge.

Regardless, it must've been bad enough for Joey Styles to get out of his chair and try and fight JBL. Others apparently tried to quickly separate the two, but not before the announcer landed a fast knockout punch.

6 Goldberg Vs. Chris Jericho: Backstage Drama

There's no big grand explanation for this infamous fight. In 2003, Goldberg was reportedly saying bad things about Chris Jericho backstage, as they had bad blood stemming from their WCW days. As a result, they had words backstage about it.

As the story goes, Goldberg was caught in a front-facing headlock for most of the brief fight. Jericho seemingly emerged victorious in this one but has admitted that he got lucky against the giant.

5 Roddy Piper Vs. Kevin Nash: Slamboree 1997

Roddy Piper and Kevin Nash left the ring after the main event of Slamboree 1997 and decided to keep on fighting. While the story is quite varied depending on who's telling it, there's one thread of truth. Piper and Nash, who both had some creative control, couldn't agree on the finish of their six-man tag team match.

Nash won out, but Piper went off-script in the match. As a result, the giant confronted him in his dressing room. According to Piper, he charged Nash and got a takedown before it was split up. According to the latter, the charging did happen. However, Nash said he wasn't knocked down and instead knocked down Piper.

4 Vince McMahon Vs. Bret Hart: Montreal Screwjob

To date, Bret Hart is still the only wrestler to get away with punching Vince McMahon. As the story goes, the Canadian didn't want to put over Shawn Michaels in his home country. He seemingly reached an agreement with McMahon for a finish, but instead got screwed by Earl Hebner in the main event of Survivor Series 1997.

McMahon first locked himself in his office but was ordered by The Undertaker to go apologize to Hart. He did and was warned that if he didn't leave, Bret would punch him. Hart took a shower, returned to find McMahon, and kept his word by giving him a concussion by knocking him down.

3 Batista Vs. Booker T: Ego

Whenever Batista was rising up the ranks of the WWE, he seemingly got a bit of a big head. This led to many veterans having an issue with him, including Booker T. One day while filming a commercial for Summerslam 2006, the veteran let Batista know where he stood, and that he had no problem fighting him.

As a result, they went at it right then and there. According to initial reports, Booker T easily defeated Batista. However, comments from Fit Finlay and Kurt Angle in recent years show a much more competitive scrap.

In June 1997, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart's rivalry was at its peak. Weeks earlier, the Heartbreak Kid publically hinted that the Canadian was having an affair with Sunny in a promo. As a result, Hart confronted him backstage.

There have been different versions of this story over the years. However, it seems that most agree that Hart seemingly got the better of Michaels, even ripping out a chunk of his hair.

A year after Brawl Out, the aftermath still isn't over. As the story goes, The Elite, who have been friends with Colt Cabana for years, were unhappy backstage as their friend began receiving less time on-screen. They attributed the issue to Punk, with Hangman Page even taking a shot at the Second City Saint in an off-script promo moment.

Ultimately, that led to Punk's infamous rant at the All Out post-event press conference, where he bashed The Elite. The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega confronted him, as well as his friend, Ace Steel in his locker room. While there are various reports on what happened, there's no doubt Punk landed the first blow.
