10 Pictures Of Andre The Giant Like You've Never Seen Him

Throughout WWE history, there have been many incarnations of the promotion's top star. From Bruno Sammartino to Hulk Hogan to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, every top WWE guy has been a charismatic babyface that fans are drawn to. However, there's perhaps never been a bigger attraction in all pro wrestling history than Andre The Giant.

For years, Andre ruled over pro wrestling as the sport's first true global attraction. He traveled from continent to continent wrestling every top star on the planet. Andre's incredible legacy has been well secured for years. However, there are a few pictures of the gentle giant that add more context to an already incredible life and career.

10 Being Seduced By Sensational Sherri

For most of his storied career, Andre The Giant didn't have an on-screen manager. In 1987 though, Andre turned heel for the first time in his career and needed a mouthpiece. The powers that be decided to pair Andre with arguably the greatest manager of all time, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. Andre and Heenan had an incredible run together.

Under Heenan's guidance, Andre main evented WrestleMania 3, and even won the WWE Tag Team Championships alongside Haku. In 1990, Andre split from Heenan and went back to being a babyface. This prompted all of WWE's top managers, including Sensational Sherri to pursue Andre. This picture shows Sherri trying her best to seduce Andre and secure him as a client. Unfortunately for Sherri, Andre wouldn't be easily persuaded.

9 Making An ATV Look Small

Some professional wrestlers are so closely associated with the persona that fans see on television that it's hard for anyone to see them in any other way. That was certainly the case for Andre The Giant. Andre stood out physically from a young age, but after he became a pro wrestling phenomenon, the attention increased tenfold.

For many pro wrestlers, life on the road can be grueling. For Andre, life on the road was even harder because the average plane, car, and hotel room wasn't fit to handle a giant. Luckily, Andre was able to find solace on his ranch in Ellerbe, North Carolina. Andre can be seen here making an ATV look small as he roams freely across his ranch.

8 Ribbing Mr. Fuji

Pro wrestling has evolved for the better in recent years. However, there are a few aspects of pro wrestling's past that have sadly faded away in the process. One such thing is ribbing. In the past, playing practical jokes, or ribbing someone was a way of life in the wrestling business. Some of the most notorious ribbers in wrestling history include Owen Hart, Curt Hennig, and of course, Mr. Fuji.

Despite his intimidating appearance, Andre had quite a sense of humor too. In 1990, while attempting to land Andre as a client, Fuji presented him with a cake. In this picture, fans can see one of the most notorious ribbers in wrestling history with the proverbial egg on his face thanks to "The 8th Wonder Of The World."

7 Twinning With Hulk Hogan

In January 1984, pro wrestling took its first step towards becoming sports entertainment when Hulk Hogan defeated The Iron Sheik for the WWE Championship. Hogan would become Vince McMahon's flag bearer and top star, propelling pro wrestling and WWE to previously unseen heights.

What many fans overlook is the fact that despite Andre not being WWE Champion at the time, Hogan was essentially replacing Andre as the top star in WWE. Hogan and Andre would go on to have a good working relationship. In this picture, Andre can even be seen matching Hogan's ring attire very closely when the pair tagged together.

6 Throwing Slick In A Car Trunk

In 1985, "Macho Man" Randy Savage debuted for WWE. Upon debuting, Savage was flooded by offers from WWE's top managers. In the end, Savage opted not to sign with an established manager but rather introduce the world to "The First Lady Of Wrestling" Miss Elizabeth.

In 1990, when Andre The Giant parted ways with Bobby Heenan, a similar storyline was booked.

Eventually, Slick would try his hand at landing the coveted Giant as a client. As is evident by this picture, "The Slickster" didn't fare so well. Andre promptly threw Slick in the trunk of a car and watched it drive away.

5 Hanging With Bob Uecker & Bobby Heenan

Celebrity involvement has always been a way for WWE to creep into the mainstream consciousness. This rings especially true around WrestleMania season when WWE understandably wants as many eyes as possible on their product. One particular celebrity who participated in a couple of early WrestleMania events was the legendary Bob Uecker.

Uecker and Andre The Giant will forever be linked by their interaction at WrestleMania 4, but many fans forget that Uecker was actually also involved in the main event of WrestleMania 3, as the guest ring announcer. In this picture, Andre The Giant is posing with Uecker and Bobby Heenan leading up to his epic showdown with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 3. It's fair to wonder if Andre even knew who Uecker was before working with him.

4 Losing To Jerry "The King" Lawler

The epic match between Andre The Giant and Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 3 was built up as "The Unstoppable Force Meeting The Immovable Object." The objective was to get Hulk Hogan over as a real-life superhero and the future of pro wrestling by defeating Andre The Giant. To tell a better story, WWE embellished the fact that Andre had been undefeated for 15 years. That was a blatant lie.

Despite being booked to look extremely dominant during his career, even Andre The Giant had to do a job once in a while. Before losing to Hogan at WrestleMania 3, perhaps Andre's most well-documented loss came at the hands of Jerry "The King" Lawler via knockout. In this picture, Lawler can be seen choking out Andre, something that wasn't the norm at all in pro wrestling.

3 Talking With David Letterman

Today, talk shows are still a huge part of American pop culture and mainstream media. In the 80s though, talk shows were arguably at their peak. In 1982, after several stints as guest host of The Tonight Show, David Letterman finally got his own late-night talk show, Late Night With David Letterman.

On January 23, 1984, the same night Hulk Hogan would win his first WWE Championship, Andre The Giant appeared on Late Night With David Letterman to plug that night's show at Madison Square Garden. This picture of Andre and Letterman represents the big man's sole appearance on late-night television.

2 Sitting At Gorilla

The "Gorilla Position," as it has come to be affectionately known, is the staging area behind the entrance curtain. It got its name from the legendary Gorilla Monsoon who used to sit at the position when he was backstage. Vince McMahon and other high-ranking creative personnel can often be found in the Gorilla Position during a show.

In this awesome backstage picture, Andre The Giant can be seen sitting alongside McMahon in Gorilla. Andre even went as far as to have a headset on. Andre was never reported frequenting the Gorilla Position very often, so this shot is an interesting one, to say the least.

1 Shaking Hands With Vince McMahon Sr.

Today, even 30 years after his death, Andre The Giant's legacy is as long-lasting as ever. This is in huge part due to the commitment that Vince McMahon has put towards keeping Andre's memory alive. Much has been made over the years of McMahon's close relationship with Andre. However, fans can't overlook the importance of Andre's relationship with the man who made him a global superstar in the first place, Vincent J. McMahon.

In this great candid shot, Andre can be seen shaking hands with Vincent J. as the younger Vince watches from the shadows. It would be interesting to know what the older McMahon would think of what his son did with both Andre's legacy and the family business.
