10 Specific Moments WWE Should Have Turned John Cena Heel
John Cena became an ultra babyface that fans have always wanted to turn heel, yet it just never took place, no matter how badly people hoped for it. Sadly for many fans, Cena was never put in that position, even though it could have been a huge storyline for the company and a great situation for him as a performer.

While it didn't ever take place, that doesn't mean that there weren't specific moments when it could have happened. There were plenty of times when it would have made great sense from a storyline perspective for him to turn and become a top heel in the company.
10 Post-Firefly Funhouse Match
One of the more recent chances that WWE had to turn John Cena heel was during the Firefly Funhouse match at WrestleMania 36. He faced Bray Wyatt and got taken on a journey through his career, which even teased him as a heel when he was dressed in full nWo gear.
It could've been a great moment to make the turn happen, having Wyatt truly affect him. At that time, everybody he faced was changed in some manner, therefore seeing Cena be changed by the match would have been something that fans could buy into.
9 Becoming A Wyatt
Another time that WWE could have turned John Cena heel also involved Bray Wyatt, during their WrestleMania XXX storyline. Throughout the entire angle, Wyatt pushed Cena to let out his anger and showcase an aggressive side, which he never did.

However, it could have been brilliant to see Cena actually go along with The Wyatts at this point and truly join the group. It would have put Wyatt over massively, while also changing Cena's character to something people hadn't seen before.
8 Breaking Ric Flair's Record
This situation hasn't happened yet, but right now, WWE has a perfect situation to turn John Cena heel. At the moment, he is tied with Ric Flair when it comes to World Title reigns, but that means there is a chance he could break that record in the future.
This could be a brilliant time to give Cena a late heel run in his career. Because he's not the face of WWE anymore, there's not as much pressure to desperately keep him as a babyface, therefore having him break Flair's record and then become very arrogant would work.
7 Dating Eve Torres
The Embrace The Hate storyline is one that a lot of wrestling fans remember, and while it wasn't perfect, it certainly had its moments. However, Kane being the man to turn John Cena heel wouldn't have been right, but the tease of him and Eve Torres could have been.
Eve and Zack Ryder were flirting a lot at the time, with this coming at the peak of Ryder's popularity. When she kissed Cena, that could've been a time to commit to the heel turn, having him date Eve and go against Ryder, making him one of the top babyfaces to feud with Cena.
6 Brock Lesnar Squash
The 2014 SummerSlam match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar is one of the most one-sided matches in WWE history when it comes to main event title bouts. The Beast destroyed Cena with countless German suplexes in what was a shocking moment.

However, this did open up an opportunity to turn Cena into a heel. Realizing he needed to do something different and bring out a more aggressive side of himself could have led to Cena fully embracing the chance to be a heel, which would have been intriguing.
5 Money In The Bank, 2011
Money In The Bank 2011 is one of WWE's most famous PPVs, but it could've been even more noteworthy if John Cena had turned heel. His match with CM Punk was an iconic one, with the live crowd being firmly behind Punk becoming WWE Champion.
The company could've used this as a chance to turn Cena heel. The company could either have had him win, which would've enraged the WWE Universe, or have Cena flip out since fans weren't cheering for him when he was fighting for the company in this storyline to keep the WWE Title.
4 Before TLC 2013
When WWE committed to creating The Authority, it was Randy Orton who became the top star that the group rallied around. But Orton as a heel was something fans had seen countless times, which is why the faction didn't get truly interesting until Seth Rollins joined.
But what if John Cena had been the man? Seeing him align with Triple H heading into the TLC match that unified the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship could have been fantastic, as it would have been a groundbreaking moment that people didn't see coming.
3 Royal Rumble 2008
John Cena's return at the 2008 Royal Rumble was an incredible moment, and it remains one of the best in the history of the match. However, after fighting the odds to make a quick recovery, this could have been an ideal time to push him as a heel. After winning the Rumble, Cena could have gone on the mic, dissing the fans for turning their back on him in recent years.
Believing that he was better than everybody else would have worked at this moment, plus having Cena dominate on the Road to WrestleMania would certainly have been an interesting and unique storyline at that time.
2 Anti-ECW
The crowd reaction for John Cena at ECW One Night Stand 2006 was an incredible one, with audiences hating him. This would have been the time to tap into a real heel turn, especially if RVD's WWE Championship run had gone on for a little longer.

The two of them could have feuded for a lot longer, pushing each other to get the ECW star over while also turning Cena heel. This could have been a great storyline and having him as a major heel would only have made this a bigger moment.
1 Losing To The Rock
The best opportunity that WWE ever had to make John Cena a heel was after he had been beaten by The Rock at WrestleMania 28. This had been the most hyped-up match in WWE and the loss should have caused a change for Cena.
Seeing him snap after being beaten by The Rock could have been an amazing storyline, and it would have made their 'Mania rematch instantly more interesting. It would be easy to explain why Cena wanted to change here and fans could have invested in things perfectly.
