10 Teams That Defined The 1990s
Tag team wrestling can go through fits and starts in WWE, as it can either be one of the featured attractions on a show or completely buried on a wrestling card. During the 1990s, the days of the Mega Powers and the renowned 80s' tag team scene was over, and the WWE struggled to find its footing at first with its tag division.

By the end of the decade, however, the company was back on track and had found some of the most lasting and popular teams in its history. Let's look at ten teams that defined WWE in the 1990s.
10 The Steiner Brothers
Rick & Scott were still in the midst of making their name in WCW when they left for greener pastures to WWE and continued cementing their reputation as one of the most athletic young teams in the world. Facing opponents like the Headshrinkers, Money Inc, and the Quebecers, the Steiners' style caught on with the fans who enjoyed their rough and athletic way of mowing down opponents. From there, they would return to WCW and travel the world becoming one of the most important and celebrated teams of the decade.
9 Money Inc.
The pairing of Ted Dibiase and I.R.S. was almost too perfect and the duo enjoyed success in what would be the twilight of their active wrestling careers.

As the top heel team in the division, Money Inc. held the tag titles three times during their relatively short run, acting as the foil for many popular teams including the bespoke Mega-Maniacs team of Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake at Wrestlemania IX. Dibiase and Schyster have forever associated together thanks to this team and left an indelible mark on the division in their short time together.
8 Kane & X-Pac
The Attitude Era saw many thrown-together tag teams find success, but few did so to the degree that Kane and X-Pac did. The two formed an unlikely friendship that both aided X-Pac into more high-profile matches and humanized the Kane character, which made him even more popular than before. The two were a popular and memorable part of the decade for many fans and their ensuing feud was a bitterly personal one. The team dynamic they perfected would be used again and again in WWE afterward, owing to the two's success together.
7 Legion Of Doom
The legendary tag team found itself in WWE at both ends of the decade, first appearing in the early 1990s along with manager Paul Ellering and again in the Attitude Era with new additions Sunny and Puke.

The duo found success at both ends, capturing tag titles in both periods, but are also remembered for their more infamous storylines involving a puppet and a "suicide attempt", respectively. Regardless of their creative dips, the L.O.D. proved their mettle as one of the toughest tag teams ever during their time in WWE.
6 Owen Hart & British Bulldog
Hart and Bulldog both had found tag team success in other combinations, but together, they formed their highest-profile association. Hart and Bulldog began teaming together as part of Camp Cornette in the mid-90s against top stars like Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid, capturing the tag titles shortly thereafter. The team also had a resurgence in 1997 after becoming part of the new Hart Foundation, the top heels in WWE at the time. The two had a natural chemistry, both in-ring and comedically, and are fondly remembered for their standout matches and hilarious antics.
5 Edge & Christian
Formed near the end of the decade, the team began with a vampiric edge in The Brood before striking out on their own as a hot young team.

Thanks to their rivalry with the Hardy Boyz, Edge and Christian were able to find footing as a dynamic team looking to make an impact on the business and even innovated the tag team ladder match along the way. As characters, the two would advance farther together in the ensuing decade, but the 1990s put them on the map in the eyes of fans worldwide.
4 The Acolytes
The bruiser team of Bradshaw and Faarooq struck gold when they were paired together, revitalizing what were fledgling careers for both into a memorable tag team. Initially part of the Undertaker's Ministry, the two would later split off into the A.P.A, a fondly-remembered team of mercenaries in the tag team ranks. The team is best remembered for its rough style and as being gatekeepers of WWE for a time, breaking in the likes of the Hardy Boyz and the Dudley Boyz alongside fashioning their own runs with the tag team championships.
3 The Hardy Boyz
The youngsters Matt & Jeff began their time in WWE as gangly jobbers but would end the decade as two of the hottest young stars in the company. Known for taking risks, the Hardys found themselves in short but successful associations with both Michael Hayes and Gangrel before striking out on their own, establishing a long-running feud with fellow youthful team Edge & Christian along the way. Their identity as daredevils of the tag team ranks bolstered their popularity among a younger audience and served them well into the next decade.
2 Rock 'N' Sock Connection
The joining together of top stars of the Attitude Era led to one of the most memorable and star-studded tag teams of the decade. Mick Foley and The Rock had peerless chemistry together as a comedic duo, yet they were also able to put themselves at the top of the tag team ranks thanks to their gelling together so well as an act. Their time teaming together led to such immortal segments as "This Is Your Life" and established a lasting association with one another that fans look back on fondly to this day.
1 New Age Outlaws
Billy Gunn and Road Dogg floundered about in WWE for many years before finally teaming together and becoming the most successful tag team of the decade. As part of D-Generation X, the Outlaws became one of the most popular parts of any show thanks to their scintillating entrance and dominated the tag team ranks with five reigns as tag team champions. The Outlaws' time together served to outshine any other part of either man's career but it allowed them to hit a stratosphere of superstardom together that few wrestlers achieve on their own.
