10 Things AJ Styles Never Accomplished In Wrestling

The outstanding career of AJ Styles sees him as an all-time great for Impact Wrestling, New Japan, Ring of Honor and now WWE. Any wrestler to spend that much time in different relevant promotions is bound to accomplish many great things. Styles is a rare “grand slam” champion in both WWE and Impact Wrestling history after winning many titles.

However, even a wrestler with a legendary run over multiple decades will see certain accolades missing from their resume as time goes on. AJ found himself missing out on some unexpected things that many of his peers and friends did. Each of the following accomplishments are currently things Styles has yet to do in wrestling.

10 Winning The Royal Rumble

AJ Styles WWE Debut

WWE created an all-time great debut moment when AJ Styles finally joined the company via a surprise Royal Rumble appearance. Styles entered the 2016 match as the third entrant to go at it with Roman Reigns and go deep into the match before falling short.

There have been a few Rumble appearances for AJ since then, but he never won it like most top stars of his name value. WWE just always had other plans and used Styles as a workhorse that helped carry the general match until getting eliminated before the finish.

9 Joining Main Event Mafia

Main Event Mafia

TNA pushed the Main Event Mafia to great success and witnessed them becoming arguably the best faction in company history. AJ Styles was the biggest TNA star to never actually join the Main Event Mafia during any of their various incarnations.

The first and best version of the faction made Styles one of their biggest enemies, but Samoa Joe was also in that boat before joining them. Joe and Magnus joining showed that it was no longer an all-legends group. However, AJ was the big name still in his prime to avoid joining Main Event Mafia.

8 Winning Trios Titles

AJ Styles Young Bucks

The New Japan and Ring of Honor working relationship allowed AJ Styles to spend time in both in between the TNA and WWE stints. Styles and the Young Bucks became a top act together as a six-man tag team for ROH that helped carry their shows.

ROH did not introduce their Trios Championship in time, and future belts in NJPW and AEW were not existent yet either. The Bucks and Styles just had great matches of little stakes while trying to advance their matches as a beloved trios team. Adam Page, Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes all teamed more with the Bucks after AJ left for WWE.

7 Competing Inside Hell In A Cell

The Hell in a Cell match is among the rare true contenders for the greatest match stipulations in WWE history. Names like The Undertaker, Triple H, Batista and Sasha Banks had huge career-defining moments in that stipulation.

WWE typically has most main eventers in at least one Hell in a Cell match since they like to have high stakes involved. AJ Styles is a surprising name that has yet to compete in the cage match, despite usually being an upper card act. Time will tell if WWE ever places Styles inside of the massive structure.

6 Get His Personal Dream Match Vs Shawn Michaels

Shawn Michaels Vs AJ Styles

AJ Styles has not been shy about discussing his ultimate dream match in the wrestling world. Shawn Michaels is considered the greatest in-ring performer of all-time by most wrestlers. Styles shares that sentiment and has publicly lobbied for Michaels to come of retirement for one more match.

Michaels has even revealed that Styles, Kevin Owens and others have tried to talk him into a comeback. Styles unfortunately never got his dream match, and it seems highly unlikely to ever happen. Michaels has dedicated his wrestling time to his current role running NXT’s creative.

5 Work For AEW

The Elite Kicks Out AJ Styles Bullet Club

The idea of working for a company isn’t necessarily an accolade in itself, but a wrestler having a check list is fascinating. AEW launching led to many seasoned names that wrestled for every other relevant promotion getting to add a new one to the list.

AJ Styles reportedly seriously considered joining AEW at some point due to many of his best friends working there, but WWE just had a better deal to not make a change. There is an odd chance that AJ wants to test the waters if he wants another long-term deal when his current contract ends.

4 Main Event NJPW Wrestle Kingdom

The New Japan run leading Bullet Club was generally short for AJ Styles, but he had a legendary stint there. NJPW gave Styles the push of a lifetime as the first American wrestler to win the prestigious IWGP Heavyweight Championship since Brock Lesnar made them regret it.

AJ joined that rare upper echelon of protected top NJPW stars like Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada and Shinsuke Nakamura. The timing just never worked out for Styles to main event Wrestle Kingdom. AJ had great matches with Nakamura and Tetsuya Naito as semi-main events at NJPW’s WrestleMania equivalent.

3 Winning Money In The Bank

WWE has put AJ Styles in almost every role imaginable with success at each level of the card, but he is missing one huge accomplishment. The Money in the Bank briefcase win instantly adds a new twist to one’s character and places them in the world title scene by just being around with the chance to cash in.

Styles has competed in two Money in the Bank ladder matches as a popular pick to win, but WWE went in a different direction each time with Baron Corbin and Otis. Both guys ended up losing their chances at being champ, and AJ would have been a better pick each year.

2 Getting Inducted In Impact Hall Of Fame

Most fans would easily name AJ Styles without a second thought when naming the best wrestler in Impact Wrestling history. TNA had a mixed history, but all fans seemed to love AJ, even if he wasn’t always spotlighted in the best role.

Styles is currently the biggest name not in the Impact Hall of Fame after names like Kurt Angle, Sting, Gail Kim and Team 3D joined. Impact clearly would love to induct AJ, but the idea of a full-fledged ceremony seems hit or miss with WWE’s unpredictable approach to allowing these things.

1 Winning ROH World Championship

AJ Styles ROH NJPW

AJ Styles had an underrated history in Ring of Honor at different stages. The earlier years saw Styles as one the names to work for both ROH and TNA like Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels and Homicide. AJ found even more success in the 2010s as an attraction at select ROH shows while working for NJPW.

It is quite surprising that Styles never won the ROH World Championship, despite his name value and the deep list of names to hold that title featuring many of his peers. ROH even tried to use this story in AJ’s final match there falling short to Jay Lethal with the title on the line one more time.
