Moxley has certainly built a positive reputation for himself as a performer, and that is one of the reasons he is so popular with fans. However, that doesn't mean that people always get everything right when they talk about him, as there are certain misconceptions fans have about Moxley that they always get wrong.
10 The Shield Was His WWE Debut
When it comes to Jon Moxley's WWE career it was via The Shield that he truly caught on and started gaining the attention of the WWE Universe. However, the night that the Hounds Of Justice arrived in WWE wasn't Moxley's first time on WWE television.
Moxley had competed on the main roster three times before that, once on Velocity and twice on Heat. He was used to putting over established stars such as Val Venis and Big Show, but he had appeared. He rocked long pink hair for two of those appearances and even worked under the name of Jon Moxley.
9 He Won The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
Casual wrestling fans are aware that Jon Moxley has dipped his toes into the world of New Japan Pro-Wrestling over the years, but they often get confused about what he achieved. Some people believe he was able to claim NJPW's top prize, but that isn't the case...at least not yet.

However, while he isn't a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion yet Moxley has held gold in Japan. That's because he is a two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, which is where that confusion can be born.
8 He Didn't Compete In NXT
The rise of NXT meant that many top independent stars who had lots of experience ended up going there before appearing on the main roster. However, Jon Moxley's time in WWE development mainly came via FCW before he then transitioned to the main roster.
Unlike Seth Rollins, he didn't get a big NXT run, which is why a lot of fans don't think he ever competed for the Black and Gold brand. That isn't the case though as he had one official NXT match which saw him defeated by Leo Kruger.
7 He Was Trained By William Regal
The AEW storyline that led to the creation of Blackpool Combat Club is something that did create some confusion among wrestling fans. William Regal spoke with respect about the talent in the group, and it led a lot of people to believe he had a hand in training them all.
While Regal used to train a lot with Bryan Danielson, he didn't have a hand in Jon Moxley's development. While they may have trained at an older age, when Moxley was first learning it was Cody Hawk and Les Thatcher who taught him what to do.
6 His WWE Exit
Jon Moxley departing from WWE was a big deal at the time because he was one of the biggest stars in the company, but fans often get things wrong when they think about this period. A lot of people are of the assumption that he quit and decided to depart the company in the middle of his run.
While he did choose to walk away when a new contract was on the table, the fact was that he didn't technically quit. His contract simply came to an end, he fulfilled all of his dates and then opted to not re-sign.
5 He's Not A Good Promo
In WWE, Jon Moxley didn't always get tons of opportunities to cut lengthy promos, and because the company liked him to be a whacky, unhinged character that was something he had to lean into. However, that doesn't mean that he isn't a good talker.
Moxley has proven how good he is on the microphone with all the opportunities he's had to talk. Whether he's trading words with the likes of Eddie Kingston and CM Punk or firing up the crowd for the Blackpool Combat Club, Moxley certainly has the gift of the gab.
4 He & Mick Foley Don't Like Each Other
Before Jon Moxley debuted on WWE television he went through a social media argument with Mick Foley which a lot of people took as real. That was the idea, but it was meant to be an angle. This was going to be how he debuted in WWE originally, to face Foley, but the Hardcore Legend couldn't pass the necessary tests and the plug was pulled.
However, it did lead to some fans believing there was legitimate heat between them. That wasn't helped when Foley admitted he was hot at Moxley for mentioning his children during that time, but Moxley had been in England and not received Foley's messages about the situation. However, the two of them certainly do like each other and have plenty of respect for one another.
3 AEW Was His First Post-WWE Stop
Jon Moxley was the first big surprise star to show up in AEW, and it was something that truly helped the momentum for the company as it instantly got people interested in what was happening. It was a big deal and because of that lots of people think it was his first appearance post-WWE.
However, that isn't the case. Instead, Moxley went and competed for NJPW and NEW, helping to put attention onto them, plus it made his AEW appearance even more surprising.
2 Weakest Member Of The Shield
Whenever a faction is created people always look to who was the strongest and weakest member. Unfortunately for Jon Moxley, he has been labeled as the weakest member of The Shield by some fans which is due to the bigger main event opportunities that his stablemates gained.

However, Moxley also dominated the main event scene and got to hold the WWE Championship. On top of that, he would compete more than anyone at that time, and his United States Championship run helped establish him on his own, with the group all being equal.
1 He's Not Technical
There's no doubt that Jon Moxley enjoys the violent side of professional wrestling as he has built his entire career around that. From competing for CZW to being dubbed the Lunatic Fringe in WWE fans have a certain thought about him. This has only intensified due to his AEW career where Moxley bleeding in a match has become a running joke.
However, that doesn't mean that he's not a great technical wrestler, far from it. Moxley is fantastic in that sense and can more than hold his own in that aspect. That's something he proved recently by winning gold in the North American Grappling Association's (NAGA) Cincinnati Grappling Championship.
