10 TV Shows That Had Wrestling Themed Episodes

Nothing gets viewers excited more than when their favorite show has a great themed episode. Do to its colorful imagery, ultra-violence, and loud characters, pro wrestling has been a go to theme episode for a multitude of different shows.

Some due to wrestling's immense popularity in the 90s, and others due to wanting to use the over-the-top form of entertainment for laughs. Sometimes, the episode feels like neither and is just plain odd. Regardless, utilizing wrestling instantly makes an episode feel memorable. Here are 10 TV shows that had a pro wrestling centered or inspired episode.

10 Dexter's Laboratory - Dial M For Monkey

One of the best parts of the classic cartoon was the short segments where Dexter's pet monkey would reveal his superhero side and rush off to save the day. The most iconic short being one where Monkey must take on an intergalactic super-being called Rasslor.

Voiced by none other than "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Rasslor was a heavyweight champion scouring the galaxy for competition. The segment is short, action-packed, and one of the best of the many appearances Savage did outside of wrestling.

9 King Of The Hill - Bobby Slam

While this one doesn't feature any famous wrestlers making cameos or truly any professional wrestling matches, it is still a great episode for fans. When Bobby Hill, the often confused adolescent that drives many of the show's plot-lines, joins the school's wrestling team, his father Hank couldn't be happier.

However, things take a turn when it is revealed Bobby joined because of his professional wrestling fandom, and he ends up working a scripted match that everyone thinks is real. The episode is one of the show's many good satires of toxic masculinity.

8 Avatar: The Last Airbender - Earth Rumble IV

This episode is awesome due to how absolutely strange its existence is. A wrestling style tournament in a world of elemental magic users just happens to work perfectly. The tournament is comprised of Earth Benders putting their strength to the test against one another in a wrestling style arena.

The episode is even complete with a trash-talking competitor called The Boulder, who talks in the third person and is voiced by Mick Foley.

7 Sabrina The Teenage Witch - Salem's Daughter

In a wacky, fun episode Sabrina attends an otherworldly wedding. This, of course, leads to the greatest moment in all of television. When the officiant asks for the ring, it is an actual wrestling ring, and Billy Gunn immediately stands up in the front row and tears his entire tuxedo off to reveal wrestling trunks.

The match is shockingly not bad. Billy grapples and attempts wrestling moves while Sabrina uses her agility and magic to continuously evade him. She haphazardly forces some pretty good bumps along the way as well. Although a weird show choice, this is one of the better portrayals of actual wrestling moves on the list.

6 Baywatch - Bash At The Beach

The episode's opening is easily the funniest thing on this list. A jet ski race between Hulk Hogan and "Macho Man" Randy Savage, complete with trash talking mid-race. Things go awry when Hogan wrecks his jet ski and almost drowns. He is, obviously, saved by the lifeguards that lead the show.

That's just the opening, brother. The real fun kicks in after Hogan is resuscitated when we learn that Hogan and Savage have to help the lifeguards save the local youth center from the evil owner, Ric Flair. It is all as good as it sounds.

5 South Park - W.T.F.

It took the satirical adult cartoon thirteen seasons to make a pro wrestling episode, but when they finally did, they knocked it out of the park. The episode viciously mocks the overly dramatic performances and soap opera style stories that make up a lot of wrestling.

The parody ultimately feels more like a love letter to wrestling than a take-down. A few wrestling personalities, notably WWE chairman Vince McMahon, show up in as characters and the wrestling shows the kids put on will make wrestling fans laugh just as hard as non-fans.

4 Workaholics - Front Yard Wrestling

The guys on Workaholics basically behave like children in everything they do, which makes their take on wrestling an absolute joy. They build a dangerous ring in their yard, create racially insensitive characters, then put on a local access show where they try to do as many tropes in one show as possible.

The best part of the episode is that during the show they worry about hurting one another, argue over who should win, and obviously get hurt. Anyone that loved wrestling as a child and pretended to be a wrestler with friends will probably relate to the way these guys behave and have a laugh filled nostalgia trip.

3 That 70s Show - That Wrestling Show

In this episode of the classic retro-themed teen comedy, the friends go to a local wrestling show. The episode's plot has plenty of stuff going on that isn't correlated to wrestling, but the actual wrestling show has some great moments for a wrestling fan.

The Hardy Brothers are seen briefly wrestling each other in the opening match and Ken Shamrock is featured prominently in the main event. His opponent is real life wrestler Rocky Johnson, played by his son Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. It's a fun cameo that has a new layer of emotion tied to it after Rocky recently passed away.

2 It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - The Gang Wrestles For The Troops

Much like South Park, It's Always Sunny consistently tackles relatable subject matter with their specific brand of unrelenting comedy. In their episode on pro wrestling, the gang decides to hold a pro wrestling show in honor of returning troops. To do this they recruit the help a crazy retired wrestler played by Roddy Piper himself.

The build-up and planning for the show is hilarious take on how wrestling is perceived and how little viewers really know about what goes into it. Then the actual show is even better, complete with costumed characters, a dead crowd, and some nasty botches.

1 Boy Meets World - The Thrilla' in Phila' & Sixteen Candles And Four-Hundred Pound Men

The show had multiple cameos by wrestlers, most notably three separate episodes featuring Vader. These two tie for both being great wrestling-themed episodes in different ways.

In the first one, after taking a spot from someone on the school's amateur wrestling team, Cory is challenged to an unsanctioned match. The match is of course played out like a pro wrestling match, with a ring and questionably legal moves. The whole thing is amazingly capped off by WCW United States champion Big Van Vader tagging himself into the match and almost destroying a child.

In the second episode, Vader this time recruits Cory to be his ringside manager for a big title match. The wrestling is fun, looks legit, and features Jake "The Snake" Roberts as Vader's opponent.
