10 WrestleMania 39 Rumors That WWE Fans Should Know About

The “Road to WrestleMania” is pretty much underway as it approaches Royal Rumble season, with fans speculating and discussing which matches will take place at WrestleMania 39. There are often a lot of rumors around WrestleMania - much more than any other event - with plenty of those being must-know for fans.

Several rumors can conflict, get ruled out, or simply get forgotten about, but that doesn’t make fans any less likely to continue speculating and keep an eye on rumors for the major stars and biggest matches. As WrestleMania approaches, more concrete news will likely emerge, but over the last few months there have been some notable stories and potentially true rumors.

10 Cody Rhodes’ Potential Plans

The Road to WrestleMania for Cody Rhodes is one which has been on the minds of fans ever since his injury over half a year ago. There has been a lot of support for a World Title push for Rhodes, though it did emerge that there were some vague plans in place before Triple H gained creative control.

It seemed as though the original plan for Rhodes was a blockbuster match against John Cena, though these plans seem to have been nixed due to the regime change in WWE, per Fightful Select (via Sportskeeda).

9 Dream Match For Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar is still one of the biggest attractions that WWE has on hand, but with fans not wanting to see yet another repeat of him vs Roman Reigns, it looks as though he will be headed for a non-title match.

A huge first time ever match between Lesnar and Gunther had reportedly been discussed, though nothing new has come out about that in more recent months, but it could still very much be on the cards. A rubber match between Lesnar and Bobby Lashley may be more likely though.

8 Another Comeback For Steve Austin

Last year at WrestleMania 38, Steve Austin shockingly came out of retirement for a huge match against Kevin Owens, in what felt like a perfect farewell for him. However, with Austin feeling positively about this bout, and with recent videos on his Instagram showing him in great shape, he could be lined up for another return.

There is no word on who a potential opponent could be, but there are plenty of big match options including Seth Rollins, John Cena, and more.

7 Austin Theory Vs John Cena

There have been many parallels made between Austin Theory and John Cena, especially since Theory looked to be a handpicked future star by Vince McMahon.

They have crossed paths here and there backstage, but nothing has come of it just yet. WrestleMania could well be the place where Theory scores a star-making victory, but WWE may have bigger plans for Cena with more high profile opponents, though don’t be surprised if this ends up being a back-up if things fall through.

6 Canceled Ronda Rousey vs Becky Lynch Match

Fans have been waiting nearly five years for a singles match between Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch after a canceled match between the pair, and after Charlotte Flair was added to the occasion at WrestleMania 35.

It looked like this year was finally the time to make it happen, but Wrestling Observer reported that it is now “dead”. This is due to WWE believing there to be a lack of interest in the match, especially since Rousey’s star power has dropped.

5 Bray Wyatt And Uncle Howdy

Bray Wyatt’s WWE return has been met with a mixed reaction, but he will likely have a spot at WrestleMania 39.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio believes that Wyatt will end up going face to face with Uncle Howdy, who seems sure to eventually be revealed as Bo Dallas underneath the mask. WWE will be walking a fine line though, as this could end up being overly wacky.

4 Potential WWE Championship Contenders

WWE have been trying to figure out ways to split up Roman Reigns’ WWE and Universal Titles without having him lose, though they are yet to find a way to make this happen. It has been discussed though, and several potential names have been discussed for the WWE Championship scene if the belts are indeed to be separated once again.

Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, and Drew McIntyre have each been thrown into the hat, though it must be said that none of those combinations sound particularly “WrestleMania” worthy.

3 Sami Zayn’s Babyface Push And Potential Match

Sami Zayn has become one of the hottest stars in WWE over the last year, and despite technically being a “heel”, he is soon sure to be a hugely over babyface. The natural progression to his storyline seems to be a showdown with Roman Reigns, though it isn’t clear if WWE considers this a big enough match for a WrestleMania main event.

Zayn teaming with Kevin Owens to take on The Usos is something which has been speculated over too, with this being a much more likely scenario ahead of the Show of Shows.

2 Logan Paul’s Comeback From Injury

Logan Paul has been a surprising success in WWE thus far, impressing in his first three matches and proving to drum up some interest, so WWE have considered booking a match between Logan Paul and John Cena.

Of course, on paper this isn’t overly compelling to pure wrestling fans, but this would no doubt get people talking and put eyes on the show due to how big the two respective stars are.

1 The Rock’s Return

The topic of The Rock and WrestleMania 39 has been one of the most talked about things over the last few months. It feels as though this is the last opportunity for WWE to book The Rock vs Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, especially since the show is Hollywood-themed.

It isn’t clear whether The Rock is available or ready for a match with Reigns, but fans will still speculate until it becomes clear that he isn’t returning.
