10 Wrestlers Who Should Be Shawn Spears' New Tag-Team Partner
Following Revolution, AEW star Shawn Spears revealed he is stepping away from single's competition to compete in the company's prestigious tag-team division. With that said, he does not have a tag-team partner. Not only that, but he doesn't have one in mind. Instead, he's asking wrestlers around the world to send him reasons why he should pick them, potentially giving a fresh face the chance of a lifetime.

While that sounds great in theory, we can think of a few bigger-named wrestlers who would be a great fit alongside the talented former WWE star. Whether they're in AEW currently, or if they're free agents looking to debut, we have a few ideas of who his mystery partner could be. So, with that in mind, here are 10 wrestlers who should be Shawn Spears' new tag-team partner.
10 Jimmy Havoc
While the pairing of Jimmy Havoc and Shawn Spears may seem odd on the outside, the hardcore specialist could be a great partner for the former Perfect 10. Havoc's unorthodox, extreme style could add a level of unpredictability and danger to a team with Spears, instantly making them a must-watch duo.
Aside from that, however, Havoc has been rarely used on AEW TV recently, mostly appearing on the YouTube show, Dark. A wrestler of his caliber could be should be highlighted a little more, and giving him a manager as legendary as Tully Blanchard could be just the thing to get eyes on him.
9 Luther
Luther's time in AEW has been short and strange. Originally brought on board to be part of the Nightmare Collective, Luthur was featured in a few appearances alongside Brandi Rhodes, Melanie Cruise, and Awesome Kong. The faction was short-lived thanks to some health issues with Kong and a lack of crowd reaction in general, but Luther always seemed like an interesting member.
Clearly a little on the creepy side, Luther is considered a deathmatch specialist. Still, his size and unique look could be an interesting juxtaposition alongside the more clean-cut Spears, who will probably still be the star of the duo. It can be a great way to reintroduce the fans to a character who didn't have a chance to take off while also providing AEW with its first "odd-ball" tag-team.
8 Joey Janela
Joey Janela has charisma in spades, yet outside of a brief feud with his ex-girlfriend Penelopy Ford and her new beau, Kip Sabian, and a great hardcore match with Jon Moxley, he hasn't been used as much as we expected. While not quite as well known as the members of The Elite or PAC, Janela made a career out of insane risks and a unique presentation. Odds are, if you've been following wrestling over the past few years, you've heard about Janela from either his amazing WrestleMania weekend indy shows or his hardcore bouts, but on AEW, he's been used sparingly.
We'd love to see him on Dynamite more often in any capacity, and in a way, he could fit in with Spears. While their looks are incredibly different, the two could complement each other as two stars with a pedigree and a chip on their shoulders.
7 Kip Sabian
"Superbad" Kip Sabian could be the perfect tag-team partner for Sean Spears. At just 27 years of age, the British superstar became a big name in the UK thanks to his high octane style that mixes high flying moves with short bursts of power. To top it all off is the swagger of a star and a look that is definitely marketable, Sabian has all the intangibles to be the next big thing in AEW.
With all that said, it's clear to see he'd look great alongside a tenured star like Spears. Both have that tall, dark hair, and handsome aesthetic, and since Spears is a little bit older, there's a built-in storyline of the grizzled veteran taking a young rising star under his wing.
6 Jeff Cobb
Jeff Cobb has been established as the assassin in AEW. His speed and power make him almost unstoppable, and for fans who watched him in Ring of Honor or Lucha Underground know he's one of the most exciting power-wrestlers around. The former Olympian debuted as a hired gun paid by the inner circle to take out Jon Moxley before the now-champion took on Chris Jericho at Revolution, but ended up coming short. Still, he looked like an absolute monster leaving AEW fans excited when he can show up again.
With all that in mind, it makes sense that the only wrestler willing to work with the dastardly spears is a hitman who's being paid. It could be a logical partnership that could make for a really interesting storyline.
5 Carlito Colón
As part of the legendary Colón family, Carlito was once a bright up and coming star in WWE waiting to break out. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. Never reaching the World Championship or WWE Championship title picture, the talented star found himself floundering in the tag-team division by the time he left the WWE.

Now, in his 40s, Colón could join AEW alongside another former WWE superstar looking for a shot in Shawn Spears. Obviously, directly referencing the other company might be a little too on the nose, but a redemption story for both Colón trying to restore his family's legacy alongside Spears who is trying to cement his own could be something fans could get behind.
4 Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Much like Colón, Davey Boy Smith Jr comes from wrestling royalty. His mother, part of the legendary Hart family, and his father, The British Bulldog. From 2006 to 2011, he worked with WWE, with his biggest success taking place in the tag-team division alongside Tyson Kidd as the Hart Dynasty. Following his tenure, he set his sights on New Japan Pro Wrestling. Despite his massive frame and hard-hitting Calgary wrestling style, however, Davey Boy Smith Jr stayed in the tag-team division there too.
Most recently, he's been a big deal in MLW, where alongside Teddy Hart and Brian Pillman Jr, he's running the tag team division as the New Era Hart Foundation. In interviews, he's admitted he'd love to be in AEW, but his obligations with MLW got in the way. Now that both shows have settled into their slots, maybe there's a chance for him to jump over.
3 Brian Cage
Ever since his contract expired with Impact Wrestling, Brian Cage's name has been linked to AEW. With size and strength, the talented star could fill a much-needed niche in the promotion that few could fill. Unfortunately, a poorly timed injury has kept him away from signing anywhere, but it's only a matter of time before he returns. The only question is, where?
Signing a star of Cage's caliber would be a big deal for AEW, and pairing him with Spears could be perfect. Cage could provide some muscle, while Spears offers something a little more technical, giving them an old-school team feel.
2 Luker Harper
Fans have been expecting Luke Harper to debut in AEW since he was released by WWE in late 2019. With size and agility, the bearded superstar has experience as a tag-team specialist, and could be an intimidating heavy for the slightly smaller Spears.
A duo of the two could be equal parts strength and speed, making for some fantastic matches. His debut would still be a surprise, as most probably wouldn't expect him to join AEW as a tag-team star, but alongside Spears, he could rewrite years of poor use as part of WWE.
1 Matt Hardy
At the time of this writing, Matt Hardy joining AEW is all but confirmed. With that said, most rumors are linking him to The Dark Order. While that is probably the most logical choice for the veteran mega-star, he could provide a big rub to Spears who is still finding his footing as a consistent presence on TV in AEW.
Fans know Hardy is a tag-team specialist, and while he's not as agile as he used to be, he can still be really entertaining. Alongside Spears who can do the heavy lifting, Hardy could send a shock to the tag-team division and could surprise fans.
