If a wrestler isn't well liked backstage, it can negatively influence a career, and that's been proven multiple times in WWE, as some wrestlers had negative reputations backstage and while some still achieved success and were able to overcome it, others couldn't recover and their backstage reputations prevented them from climbing to the mountain top.

10 Sable

Sable-wearing-black

As the Attitude Era kickstarted, Sable became one of the biggest stars in WWE, mainly because of her sexual appeal. Due to this fact, some wrestlers expressed major dislike for Sable, as some people felt her ego had gotten too big, especially with her lack of wrestling skills and personality.

Wrestling personalities like Jim Cornette, Sunny and Luna Vachon were some of the people who have been vocal when it comes to expressing their dislike for Sable. Sable's relationship with WWE has been difficult to say the least, as she once tried to sue the company and it's safe to say Sable won't be making any sporadic appearances on WWE television.

9 Mabel

King Mabel WWE

In 1995, Mabel was given a controversial push, as he turned heel and won the King of the Ring tournament. Mabel was set to challenge Diesel for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam 1995, with Vince McMahon even considering putting the belt on Mabel.

Even though he was being pushed, it wasn't all sunshine and roses, as Mabel gained a negative reputation backstage as he injured multiple top stars like The Undertaker and Diesel. This would lead to Mabel being released in January 1996.

8 Rene Dupree

Rene Dupree WWE

Rene Dupree rose through the ranks rather quickly, as he became the youngest champion in WWE history, at just age 19. When a wrestler gets a push at such a young age, it typically comes with some backstage heat, and that's exactly what happened with Dupree.

Rene Dupree recently revealed that he was the victim of some brutal backstage occurrences, which included getting his suit and shoes ruined and the French flag shoved down the toilet.

7 Dean Douglas

Dean-Douglas

Dean Douglas experienced some success in ECW and WCW, but his WWE run in 1995 left a lot to be desired. At the time, the backstage world of WWE was controlled by the Kliq, which meant that any wrestler that was on the Kliq's bad side would have no chance of salvation. Unfortunately, Douglas butted heads with not only the Kliq but also Vince McMahon.

Douglas' issues with the Kliq led to him holding the Intercontinental Championship for only 20 minutes, before dropping it to Razor Ramon. Douglas would leave WWE in January 1996 after Vince questioned the legitimacy of Douglas' back injury, after which Douglas would promise to never work for Vince again.

6 Buff Bagwell

Buff Bagwell

After WCW's demise in March 2001, Buff Bagwell was one of the former WCW wrestlers to agree to a contract buy-out and sign with WWE. Bagwell's stint in the WWE was short-lived, mainly because of some backstage incidents and the poor reception of his match with Booker T.

Bagwell had some backstage heat because of an altercation with Shane Helms and because of some accusations that Bagwell faked an injury in order to get time off. It's a shame this happened, as it would've been nice to see Bagwell have a solid run during the Invasion angle.

5 Enzo Amore

Enzo Amore in WWE as Cruiserweight Champion

After his release from WWE, Enzo became a controversial figure in the world of wrestling. His attitude didn't sit right with fans, especially with his disruption at Survivor Series 2018. However, it was revealed that Enzo had some backstage issues during his time in WWE, which didn't sit right with upper management and other wrestlers.

Enzo revealed that he was kicked off of a tour bus in Europe by Roman Reigns, due to some heat Enzo had with other wrestlers. The cause of this backstage heat was due to Enzo bringing his friends backstage and having unprofessional behavior.

4 Ultimate Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior WWE & Intercontinental Champion Cropped

Ultimate Warrior's behind the scenes attitude has been well known by fans for some time, which doesn't make it all that surprising that Warrior had some problems backstage. Warrior's attitude backstage is still a topic of discussion today, with so many incidents and stories being revealed. Warrior carried a reputation of being difficult to work with and not getting along with fellow wrestlers.

Triple H described Warrior as the worst person he ever worked with, because of the WrestleMania 12 squash match. Warrior also had a real life feud with Hulk Hogan, because of Warrior's jealousy over Hogan and wanting to be treated on the same level as Hogan.

3 JBL

JBL WWE Champion Cropped-1

JBL has been a controversial figure in the backstage world of WWE, as some wrestlers consider him to be a bully, while others have nothing but good things to say about him. Nonetheless, JBL has been a topic of discussion when it comes to his backstage behavior, as multiple wrestlers have come out to reveal incidents which involved the big Texan.

Joey Styles, Mauro Ranallo and Justin Roberts have been some of the people who have been involved in some stories of JBL being a bully. Some wrestlers gave JBL his comeuppance for his backstage behavior, which gives off the impression that wrestlers were fed up with JBL's antics.

2 Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan WWF Champion Cropped

As Hulk Hogan rose to superstardom in the wrestling business, so did his role behind the scenes, as Hogan gained a lot of power and creative control and would often use it for his own benefit, without thinking how it could impact the wrestlers he was working with.

Due to this fact, Hogan gained an extremely negative reputation backstage among multiple wrestlers. Some wrestlers have expressed their displeasure of working with Hogan, while wrestlers like Steve Austin outright refused to ever work with Hogan because of his backstage shenanigans.

1 Shawn Michaels

Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 12

As Shawn Michaels won the WWE Championship and became one of the biggest names in wrestling, he became difficult to work with and was often involved in multiple altercations with a variety of different wrestlers, most famously, Bret Hart.

Some of Shawn's worst behind the scenes antics include changing the result of his match against Davey Boy Smith at One Night Only, burying Vader and killing his WWE career and the Montreal Screwjob, which happened because of his personal rivalry with Bret Hart. Luckily in his 2000s run, Shawn toned down his backstage behavior and became much better to work with.
