5 Best & 5 Worst Hell In A Cell PPVs
24 years ago, at Badd Blood: In Your House, the first Hell In A Cell match was contested. Over the years, fans witnessed insane and absolutely violent matches under this stipulation. Such was the success of these matches, that in 2009 WWE decided to produce a Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.

Since then, Hell In A Cell has been a mainstay on the company's calendar. Some of those PPVs were extraordinary and memorable, but unfortunately, others were a resounding failure. Without further ado, here are the five best and five worst Hell In A Cell PPVs.
10 Best: Hell In A Cell 2009
The inaugural Hell In A Cell PPV was one of the best, hands down. Fans had high expectations and the PPV did not disappoint.
The Undertaker defeated CM Punk inside the structure to win the World Heavyweight Championship. John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler delivered a pretty entertaining match. Randy Orton defeated John Cena in a great Hell In A Cell match for the WWE Title and Chris Jericho and The Big Show teamed up to defeat Batista and Rey Mysterio.
The main event featured Shawn Michaels and Triple H taking on Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. The members of D-Generation X walked out of the cell as winners.
9 Worst: Hell In A Cell 2016
This edition of Hell In A Cell wasn't that bad, but it certainly wasn't one of the best. Roman Reigns defended the United States Title against Rusev inside the cell in the opening match, which was no big deal. During the night, there were other rather boring bouts such as Bayley versus Dana Brooke and Brian Kendrick against TJ Perkins.
The high points of the PPV were the great Hell In A Cell match between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins and, of course, the first-ever women's Hell In A Cell match, between Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks.
8 Best: Hell In A Cell 2018
This was a solid PPV. The first two matches of the night were pretty good. Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy collided in a Hell In A Cell match and Becky Lynch defeated Charlotte Flair to become SmackDown Women's Champion.

Then, Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre defeated Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in a jaw-dropping match. AJ Styles and Samoa Joe delivered an exceptional bout.
The main event was between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman, but in the end, it was Brock Lesnar who stole the show after destroying them both.
7 Worst: Hell In A Cell 2011
Hell In A Cell 2011 was disappointing, as it had a promising match card, but in reality, only a couple of bouts were worthwhile. The main event was quite entertaining and exciting. CM Punk, John Cena, and Alberto del Rio put on a very good show.
The bout between Air Boom (Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston) and Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger was fun to watch as well. But otherwise, the pay-per-view was very boring. Probably the Hell In A Cell match between Mark Henry and Randy Orton was the biggest disappointment of the night.
6 Best: Hell In A Cell 2010
Even though the main event between The Undertaker and Kane wasn't as good as expected, this pay-per-view was pretty good.
Randy Orton and Sheamus delivered a super violent Hell In A Cell match. Edge defeated Jack Swagger in a decent bout and surprisingly Wade Barrett defeated John Cena in a match that was very entertaining. The highlight of the show was the Triple Threat Submissions Count Anywhere Match, in which Daniel Bryan defeated John Morrison and The Miz to retain the United States Title.
5 Worst: Hell In A Cell 2012
The 2012 edition of Hell In A Cell had eight matches on the card and unfortunately, only two of them were PPV material. The opening matchup between Randy Orton and Alberto Del Rio was interesting and the Sheamus versus The Big Show bout was spectacular.
The rest of the matches were really bad. The Miz and Kofi Kingston had really weak performances in their confrontation and Cesaro and Justin Gabriel didn't bring anything special either. The Triple Threat match between Eve Torres, Kaitlyn, and Layla was a disaster and the main event between Ryback and CM Punk was a total fiasco.
4 Best: Hell In A Cell 2020
The most recent edition of Hell In A Cell was one of the best PPVs of 2020, in which we witnessed three of the best matches of the year.

Roman Reigns beat his cousin Jey Uso in a very exciting I Quit Hell In A Cell Match. Sasha Banks and Bayley delivered a mind-blowing bout inside the structure. And after a brutal match, Randy Orton managed to defeat Drew McIntyre to win the 14th World Title of his career.
Unfortunately, the bout between The Miz and Otis and the matchup between Jeff Hardy and Elias were boring, to say the least.
3 Worst: Hell In A Cell 2013
Without a doubt this PPV was mediocre. Frankly, it didn't feel like Hell In A Cell. Most of the matches were so awful that it's hard to decide which one was the worst.
Big E Langston and Dean Ambrose couldn't put on a decent show. The mixed tag team match between Fandango and Summer Rae against Natalya and The Great Khali was abysmal. CM Punk and Ryback, who teamed with Paul Heyman, flopped at Hell In A Cell for the second year in a row, and that's saying something.
Only the main event between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton and the triple threat tag team match featuring The Rhodes Brothers, The Shield, and The Usos were worth watching.
2 Best: Hell In A Cell 2015
Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker headlined Hell In A Cell 2015 and that's precisely one of the reasons why this pay-per-view was such a success. Lesnar and 'Taker delivered an absolutely insane match, arguably the best in Hell In A Cell history.
The Roman Reigns versus Bray Wyatt showdown and the Seth Rollins vs. Kane match were great as well. Charlotte Flair and Nikki Bella put on a good show and Alberto Del Rio defeated John Cena in a decent bout.
1 Worst: Hell In A Cell 2019
Hell In A Cell 2019 started off great, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks did a fantastic job and the tornado tag team match between Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns and Erick Rowan and Luke Harper was really good. However, from there the show was a disaster.
The match between Chad Gable and King Corbin was terrible as was Braun Strowman and The Viking Raiders match against The OC. The main event featured Seth Rollins vs. The Fiend, which was one of the most underwhelming matches in recent years.
