5 Best Wins With The Coup De Grace (& 5 With The 1916)

Whether he's the demon, the prince, or the smiling leader of the Balor Club, Finn is a dangerous individual who can hurt his opponents in many different ways. Since he arrived in WWE, Balor has developed a sequence that begins by kicking his opponents into the turnbuckle and then taking to the top rope to deliver a double foot stomp that he calls the Coup De Grace.

But more recently, The Prince has added an exclamation mark to his arsenal. Paying tribute to the Irish Rising, the 1916 is half DDT, half brain-buster, and ultimately devastating. As he continues to run rampant over the NXT roster, there's room for both finishers to end the dreams of the opponents who choose to face him.

10 Coup De Grace: Vs. Keith Lee Vs. Tommaso Ciampa (NXT, December 11, 2019)

With a shot at Adam Cole's NXT Championship on the line, three of the brand's best squared off in a triple threat match. Ciampa, Keith Lee, and Balor all have completely different fighting styles, but they all meshed together well in this bout.

The Prince was thrown to the outside several times during the contest while Lee and Ciampa traded blows. Eventually, Lee was able to land the Spirit Bomb on Tommaso, but out of nowhere, Balor stomped his way to victory by landing the Coup De Grace.

9 1916: Vs. Trent Seven (NXT, January 29, 2020)

Finn Balor wrestling Trent Seven

After a scuffle at World's Collide that saw Finn attack Johnny Gargano and Moustache Mountain, The Prince and Trent Seven went one on one in an NXT ring. Finn started the match aggressively the second the bell rang by punishing Seven with dropkicks, chokes, and stomps.

Trent attempted a comeback by throwing a series of chops, punches, and landing a DDT. But it wasn't enough as Balor countered with a sling blade, the Coup De Grace, and finally, the 1916 for the win.

8 Coup De Grace: Vs. Samoa Joe (NXT TakeOver: London)

Finn Balor Samoa Joe

Dressed as a demon version of Jack The Ripper, Balor made his way to the ring ready to defend his NXT Championship against his toughest opponent yet, Samoa Joe. Joe relied on his strength to keep the demon under control, while Balor attempted to use his quickness to disorient his opponent.

The battle came down to who would hit their finishing move first, and after many counters, Balor was able to climb to the top rope and land the Coup De Grace to win the bout and retain the title.

7 1916: Vs. Tommaso Ciampa (NXT, November 27, 2019)

This would be the first time Finn Balor and Tommaso Ciampa would meet one on one in an NXT ring. The match was made during the night when the two argued over who should be facing Adam Cole for the NXT Championship.

Balor set the tone of the bout early by slapping Ciampa in the face and taking him to the ground. Tommaso would fight back, and the two former champions would do everything in their power to try and land their finishing move. Cole would get involved and distract Ciampa, allowing Balor to execute the 1916 and pick up the victory.

6 Coup De Grace: Vs. Kevin Owens (NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 2015)

This ladder match favored Owens, who enjoyed handing out punishment using anything in his nearby vicinity. KO would dish out damage by bouncing Balor off the ladder, the announcer's table, and the ring apron.

Balor would eventually get to the top of the ladder, but he was not directly under the belt. So the demon decided to jump off the top and deliver the Coup De Grace, leaving no chance that Owens would get back up. Balor then repositioned the ladder, climbed it, and grabbed the belt to become the new champion.

5 1916: Vs. Ilja Dragunov (Worlds Collide 2020)

At Worlds Collide, Balor faced someone who could match his speed and intensity. Dragunov did not back down and slapped the taste out of Balor's mouth as he attempted to pose. The two would go back and forth with their most impressive maneuvers, but neither man was able to hold the advantage for too long.

Dragunov would attempt his senton move one too many times as Balor was able to block it and land the Coup De Grace to incapacitate his opponent. He then followed up with the 1916 for the victory.

4 Coup De Grace: Vs. AJ Styles (TLC 2017)

Balor was supposed to be facing Bray Wyatt, but the Eater Of Worlds came down with a viral infection that stopped him from competing. AJ Styles stepped in to take on The Demon in this dream match. The lack of build-up to the bout wasn't an issue as both men wanted to prove that they were better than the other.

Styles and Balor pulled out every move in their arsenal, but Finn was able to avoid the 450 splash and counter with Coup De Grace to defeat The Phenomenal One.

3 1916: Vs. Matt Riddle (NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019)

It was Balor's first match since returning to the black and gold brand, and he found himself facing off against The King Of Bros. Riddle attempted to utilize his MMA background to take down Balor, but Balor's aggression would help him escape any submission hold that Matt would try to put on.

The Prince attempted to finish Riddle with the Coup De Grace, but the latter slapped on the Bromission instead. Balor would escape and land the 1916 to give him the victory.

2 Coup De Grace: Vs. Seth Rollins (SummerSlam 2016)

Finn Balor vs Seth Rollin

Balor was a new addition to the RAW roster, and he found himself competing for the newly created Universal Championship against Seth Rollins. The Demon would get injured early in the match courtesy of a buckle bomb to the barricade on the outside.

However, it didn't stop Balor from putting on a show. Writhing in pain, Balor fought his way back into the match and finished The Architect off with a Coup De Grace to become the first-ever Universal Champion.

1 1916: Vs. Johnny Gargano (NXT TakeOver: Portland 2020)

Johnny Wrestling was the first person Finn Balor had in his sights when he returned to NXT. They got their chance to go one on one at TakeOver: Portland and the two gave each other everything they had. Balor was at his aggressive best with the highlight coming when he ran across the announcer's table and drop-kicked Gargano into the barricade.

Balor then rolled Gargano back into the ring and delivered the Coup De Grace. But he wasn't done, as Balor picked up Gargano and landed a brutal 1916 to seal his fate.
