5 Reasons Why WWE Fans Love Triple H (& 5 Reasons Why Fans Dislike Him)

Triple H is one of the most polarizing wrestlers of all-time due to his WWE career. Few wrestlers have been involved in as many important moments on-screen and behind the scene as Triple H. Fans are often split down the middle when debating the career of Triple H and where he ranks historically.

Many great arguments exist for why Triple H deserves love and respect for his contributions to the industry. However, critics will have a fair perspective about the reasons to dislike his body of work. Both sides are passionate as with any wrestling subject. The reasons fans love or dislike Triple H will be compared to see which side should win out.

10 Love: D-Generation X Importance

DX WCW Invasion

Few wrestling factions have held as much consistent support from the WWE audience as D-Generation X from their start in 1997 to the reunions today. Triple H deserves to be viewed as the most important member of DX since he was in every version.

The first run of Shawn Michaels leading Triple H and Chyna into a new character space was great, but it was the versions led by Triple H that fans often love most. Triple H leading the New Age Outlaws, Chyna and X-Pac version was huge, and he was considered a slight leader over Michaels in the 2006 reunion.

9 Dislike: Bad WrestleMania Main Events

Triple H has been around long enough to have both outstanding and disappointing matches under his WrestleMania history. Unfortunately, most of his worst matches came in the biggest spot of the main event of the biggest night of the year.

WrestleMania 18 vs Chris Jericho, WrestleMania 25 vs Randy Orton, and WrestleMania 32 vs Roman Reigns are considered three of the worst main events in the show’s history. Triple H did have some solid main events vs Shawn Michaels, Batista and John Cena, but the negatives outweighed the others.

8 Love: Legendary Feuds

Any wrestler to have legendary feuds will see their careers remembered for those moments. Triple H being around so long and having chemistry with fellow legendary talents created some rivalries that have and will continue to stand the test of time for decades.

The Rock, Mick Foley, Steve Austin and Batista are just a handful of names that had iconic feuds with Triple H to help both sides. Triple H delivered some of the best matches, segments and general stories told in WWE with these rivals.

7 Dislike: Rumors Of Holding Down Others

The influence of Triple H behind the scenes saw him always holding influence of some level. Shawn Michaels having power during his time leading the Kliq saw Triple H associated. However, it was obviously the marriage to Stephanie McMahon and place in the McMahon family that led to more influence growing.

Names like Rob Van Dam, Booker T and Scott Steiner having momentum squandered when challenging Triple H made fans dislike him. Even recent years of moments like Triple H beating Sting in his first WWE match left a bad taste in the mouths of fans.

6 Love: Overcoming Injuries

Few wrestlers have showed their toughest moments as publicly as Triple H. One of the gutsiest performances in WWE history saw Triple H finishing the tag match with Steve Austin vs Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit after tearing his quad.

Fans respected Triple H more than ever for that when he returned as a heroic figure. Triple H had another torn quad moment in another tag match with Shawn Michaels against Edge and Randy Orton to once again try to finish the match while having an extremely painful injury.

5 Dislike: Corny Babyface Comedy Moments

DX 2006

Triple H’s character skills were generally impressive, but there was a side to him that not every fan liked. The babyface character of Triple H saw his sense of humor come out when making corny jokes about the wrestlers he feuded with.

Most fans think of the 2006 reunion of D-Generation X with Shawn Michaels when listing the worst character of Triple H. Both the past era of Triple H’s juvenile humor and the current era of dad jokes have made many viewers wish he never turned face.

4 Love: Positive Change Running WWE Creative

The backstage aspect of Triple H’s job duties in WWE over the past decade has won over many fans. Triple H running NXT was the first step there when signing and pushing beloved talents like Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Sasha Banks and Asuka.

The recent run as the lead creative mind for WWE main roster TV replacing Vince McMahon has seen him continuing to improve the product. Fans feel more comfortable with Triple H in charge of creative since he genuinely does what he feels is best for business more than soothing his own ego.

3 Dislike: Long Promo Segments

The prime of Triple H’s career saw one constant complain about how he was used. WWE often gave Triple H twenty minutes of promo time to start episodes of Raw. This started in the Attitude Era when every major superstar had segments like that at some point.

However, Triple H was among the few to keep doing it in the Ruthless Aggression Era when having those long promo segments on Raw. The formula made Triple H feel quite stale during that chapter of his career and alienated many fans.

2 Love: Top Attitude Era Heel

The peak of Triple H’s career is something that can easily be debated, but it’s hard to argue against his heel run in the Attitude Era. Triple H’s 2000 was among the best calendar year for any wrestler in WWE history when becoming the top heel on the roster.

Stephanie McMahon marrying Triple H and adding an extra element to his character put him over the top. Triple H had legendary programs with Mick Foley, The Rock, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle and Steve Austin all in that short time as the top heel of the Attitude Era.

1 Dislike: Reign Of Terror

The transition from the Attitude Era to the Ruthless Aggression Era is when many fans started to turn on Triple H for the first time. WWE having their brand split in 2002 saw Triple H starting to dominate the Raw brand with wins over every top face.

The infamous reign of terror saw most of Triple H’s opponents looking worse than they did coming into the feud. Even someone like Randy Orton turning face suffered by losing too much to Triple H in this era. Batista and Chris Benoit were the only names to truly go over Triple H during this controversial chapter of his career.
