9 Random WWE Title Reigns That Came Out Of Nowhere

There has been a vast array of marvelous title runs in the history of wrestling. This is the area in which legends are born, as fans tend to remember wrestlers based on the championships they obtained. This allows them to become popular during their runs with their companies too. However, even with this being the case, there have been a fair share of title runs that were immensely shocking.

That is not to say that these said runs were bad. In fact, a lot of them could actually be deemed as quite spectacular. It is just that the start of them were extremely strange, as no fan could have truly expected it upon first glance.

Yet, even with all of this being so, they all are now remembered for their runs on top. No matter what belt they won, it was still extremely impressive nonetheless.

9 Rey Mysterio (World Heavyweight Champion)

Rey Mysterio

One of the best storylines of the 2000s, Rey Mysterio winning the World Heavyweight Championship was a massive shock. He had to go through two legitimate main eventers in the business, Randy Orton and Kurt Angle, to obtain it.

Given the fact that Mysterio is on the smaller side in terms of wrestling, this was a huge shock. It definitely was a marvelous occurrence because of this, as it made him quite the underdog. His crowning achievement at WrestleMania 22 will never be forgotten.

8 Spike Dudley (Cruiserweight Champion)

Spike Dudley was a very intriguing wrestler, as he was far smaller than the rest of his competition, even compared to other Cruiserweights. His career alone was interesting because of this, but him winning the Cruiserweight Championship was extremely random.

However, that shouldn't be labeled as a knock on him, as he was talented in the ring. When he won the title in 2004 though it seemed like WWE had forgotten about him, yet he won the belt and held it for more than four months only to lose it to Funaki.

7 Rob Gronkowski (WWE 24/7 Champion)

Rob Gronkowski being involved in the WWE was shocking enough. He had just retired from the NFL, so nobody expected this to occur. He would even find success in the ring, as he would go on to win the WWE 24/7 Championship belt.

Sure, it is not the WWE Championship, but this was still immensely shocking. He would of course lose the title after rejoining the NFL to play with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He can now be deemed as a champion of two sports because of this.

6 Jerry Lynn (Light Heavyweight Champion)

Jerry Lynn would have a pretty solid wrestling career, but predicting his Light Heavyweight Championship win was impossible. This was due to the fact that he would win it in his debut with the WWF. He himself felt it was shocking for this to occur.

Although Lynn had a strong career in ECW, it was still strange seeing him win this championship so early in his time with the brand. Therefore, it certainly far to state that it was a title run that came out of nowhere.

5 Santino Marella (Intercontinental Champion)

Santino Marella would go on to win the Intercontinental Championship whilst in his debut. To make matters even more intriguing, he was picked out of the crowd to face the late Umaga. He was naturally a huge underdog, as he was not known to a soul.

Yet, he would shock the WWE world by managing to defeat Umaga, with the help of Lashley of course. This in turn started his tenure, which would be one of the funniest ever. This legendary moment will never be forgotten, as it was not only unpredictable, but also epic.

4 Hornswoggle (Cruiserweight Champion)

Hornswoggle was never expected to have an actual career in the ring. He was originally just an ally who helped Finlay win matches. However, his career would end up blossoming, and fans would shockingly see him end up winning the Cruiserweight Championship.

It was an immensely surprising occurrence, as he just appeared from under the ring and made the final pin. It was great in terms of both humor and uniqueness, which is something that fans can always appreciate. It will forever be one of Hornswoggle's most memorable achievements.

3 Christian (World Heavyweight Champion)

Christian is normally labeled as being one of the most underrated wrestlers in the history of the company. This is due to the fact that he was underutilized during his solo career. However, in complete shock, he would finally get his title run with the World Heavyweight Championship.

It was a wonderful night for his fans, as he spent his whole career waiting for his chance and finally succeeded. It was an even more wholesome moment when his former tag team partner, Edge, cheered for him ringside after he won the match.

2 Carlito (United States Champion)

Carlito would make his debut in a very big way, as he would fight John Cena to try to become the United States Champion. He would succeed in his efforts, even if he cheated in the process. Nonetheless, it was truly a shocking moment for a rookie to beat such a big name in the business immediately.

This would create a true villain persona for Carlito, which he would carry for his entire tenure with the company. Nobody could have seen this happening, especially against a prominent figure like Cena.

1 CM Punk (ECW Champion)

CM Punk may be a controversial figure in the history of the WWE, but his career was quite solid. However, it was shocking to see him become so successful, as he was not necessarily a face of the franchise type of wrestler at first glance. Yet, he would surprisingly find success very early on in his tenure, as he would become ECW Champion.

From there, he of course would become a huge name in the business, as evidenced by his numerous championships. However, it was a bit unpredictable to say that this would occur. Thus, his original win was a very big moment of his career, as it essentially jumpstarted it.
