AJ Styles' Bodyguard Has New Ring Name, Possible Backstage Future Plans
The company went weeks without having him talk or giving him a name, but it appears WWE has finally settled on a ring name for the former Raw Underground doorman and now-bodyguard of AJ Styles. And, WWE didn't have to look too far to find inspiration for it.
WWE has elected to go with the name "Omos". They started using it at Sunday's Survivor Series pay-per-view and then mentioned it a couple times on Monday's Raw program. As Omos gets more and more involved in Styles' matches, it's likely the WWE Universe will hear that name a lot more frequently.
The real name of the personality behind the character is Jordan Omogbehin. He's a former WWE Performance Center recruit and had a couple of matches for NXT before being called up to help Akira Tozawa's ninjas at WrestleMania and then to work for Shane McMahon. When Raw Underground was canceled, WWE needed another gig for the big man.
He's been placed beside Styles since debuting again on Raw and the announcers have begun to casually mention his name on commentary. Until recently, Styles didn't even know his bodyguard could speak English so it's possible he didn't know his name either.
Where It Comes From and What's Next
Other than it being a part of his real last name, Omos used to refer to himself as "The Giant Omos" on social media. That could be why WWE simply went with it and removed the Giant portion of that moniker. This is nickname he used long before coming to the main roster from WWE NXT.
It is expected that Omos will start getting more hands on in the matches and he could play a factor if Styles is successful in the No. 1 contenders Triple Threat Match. If Styles wins, it will be interesting to see Omos lined up in the ring face-to-face with Drew McIntyre. Not many guys can make McIntyre look small. Omos is one of them.
