All The Ways Stevie Budd Matured Throughout The Series

Stevie Budd went from a quiet worker at a run-down motel to a business owner with a new head on her shoulders on Schitt's Creek.

TV Insider recently announced that Emily Hampshire (Stevie Budd) is in a new upcoming show on Roku called Slip. Since Schitt's Creek was released, Hampshire starred in 50 States of Fright, Chapelwaite, and the podcast show, The Beautiful Liar.

Due to Hampshire's talent, fans miss seeing her as Stevie Budd work the Rosebud Motel or gets into dramatic situations with David. Compared to the Roses, Stevie matured dramatically and became the person she was destined to come.

Stevie Became A More Open Person, Thanks To David

When fans were introduced to Stevie, she was introverted and cynical. Her main source of communication was via sarcasm and she wasn't interested in forming connections with people.

When she first met David, she was dry and snarky with him. But as their friendship grew, so did Stevie. The two of them pushed each other to be better, got each other out of their comfort zones, and accepted each other for who they were. They never tried to change each other; they merely helped each other find their potential.

She Became A Business Owner And Took Charge

The Rosebud Motel didn't always make sense but once Stevie became owner and teamed up with Johnny, they finally found success.

At first, Stevie's aunt owned the motel and Stevie worked the front desk. When Stevie's aunt died, she left the motel for Stevie to take over. Stevie was not ready for that kind of responsibility and wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her life. While she was scared, she took the new ownership role head-on and helped the motel thrive.

She Quit The Motel To Find Herself

When Stevie became the owner of the motel and teamed up with Johnny, she needed a second to think about what she wanted. Johnny gave her time to step away from the motel to find what she was looking for.

Taking some time to herself was a sign of maturity. She applied for another job as a flight attendant and later read Johnny's book Fast Forward to Succes. It was after reading Johnny's book and trying something new that Stevie realized what she wanted was to grow the motel. Her realization was one of the best Stevie and Johnny moments in the series.

One Word: Cabaret

After getting a job as a flight attendant, Stevie thought this was her chance to see the world. But after the first flight, she realized the locations the airline flew to were limited and it wasn't the experience she was looking for.

While contemplating her next move, Moira Rose gave her the opportunity to lead in Schitt's Creek's production of Cabaret. The old Stevie would never attempt to sing, dance, or act on stage in front of people, but the new and improved Stevie saw it as an opportunity to grow. 'Life is a Cabret' wound up being one of Stevie's best episodes.

She Put Herself Out There With Emir

Stevie became confident in who she was as a person but she wasn't always confident in relationships. This is why she kept it easy and open when she was dating Jake simultaneously with David.

When she met a blogger named Emir, Stevie dropped her guard and took a chance on love, despite the possibility of getting hurt. This was a level of maturity that fans haven't seen with Stevie. In the past, Stevie has said she was scared of rejection so giving in to a long-distance relationship with Emir was a big step. And while the two didn't work out, Reddit hated Emir for ending things with Stevie the way he did.

Leading The Way As Maid Of Honor

When David and Patrick's relationship got more serious, Patrick proposed and the two planned a future together in Schitt's Creek. Instead of asking Alexis to be his Maid of Honor, he went to his best friend and confidant, Stevie.

Alexis, of course, was jealous that David asked Stevie and did everything she could to manipulate the situation to get the title. Stevie never wanted to get in between David and Alexis so she did her best to assist the couple in a mature way without stepping on anyone's toes.

Stevie's Sense Of Style Changed As She Found Herself

Stevie was known for wearing plaid button-downs, t-shirts, and loose jeans. Since she worked at the motel and did busy work throughout the rooms, there was never a need to dress up. The same could be said for any local in Schitt's Creek.

However, the more Stevie matured, her style changed. Stevie's fashion changed from grunge to business casual. As a new business owner who was on her way to franchising more motels, Stevie wanted to look the part and it showed in her change of style.

She Became Less Cynical & Judgmental By Season 6

The season 6 finale was one of the best in the series because it wrapped up the stories of the main characters.

While most of the Roses left the town for greener pastures, Stevie and David stayed behind to run their respective businesses. In the end, Stevie became a well-rounded, understanding, and less cynical version of herself. She was less judgemental and open to new opportunities.
