Another WWE Superstar Was Supposed To Face Undertaker At Super ShowDown 2019 Instead Of Goldberg

The Undertaker and WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg squared off for the first time ever at the 2019 Super ShowDown event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

This match was unsurprisingly filled with high expectations. It was a match that we never thought would happen, after all. Two of the most beloved, accomplished and respected legends in the business were finally squaring off one-on-one.

Unfortunately, the match didn't live up to the hype in any way. Both superstars committed several notable botches; Goldberg botched a Jackhammer and dangerously dropped Undertaker on his head, while the Phenom failed to properly execute a Tombstone Piledriver, and Goldberg thankfully avoided serious injury.

On top of that, Goldberg immediately dropped Undertaker on top of himself when he attempted to pick him up. The former also reportedly suffered a concussion after running headfirst into the ring post.

Undertaker defeated Goldberg via pinfall after performing a chokeslam. With that, the disappointing match between the two all time greats was finally over.

Interestingly, WWE actually had somebody else in mind for Undertaker at Super ShowDown. On his Instagram page, Elias claimed that he was the one who was initially scheduled to face The Undertaker that night.

WWE planted the seeds for an Elias-Undertaker clash on the April 8, 2019 edition of Monday Night Raw - which took place the day after WrestleMania 35. Undertaker interrupted one of Elias' routine concert performances, before delivering a chokeslam and a Tombstone Piledriver.

After Super ShowDown, Undertaker returned to the ring at Extreme Rules 2019, where he and Roman Reigns emerged victorious in a tag team match against Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre.

There's Still Time For Undertaker Vs. Elias

The Undertaker can still put on quality matches, as we saw against John Cena and A.J. Styles at WrestleMania 34 and WrestleMania 36, respectively. However, his matches against fellow part-timers (Shane McMahon, Goldberg, Triple H and Shawn Michaels), haven't been as exciting.

His opponents from here on out should be full-time performers, and it's not too late to draw back to the planned bout with Elias. The latter is out long-term after suffering a torn pectoral muscle, but when he returns, WWE just might consider pitting him against The Undertaker once and for all.
