Baron Corbin Flexes His Free Agent Status By Returning To NXT

WWE left a few fans puzzled post-draft by giving certain Superstars free agent status. For some, like Von Wagner, that has been framed as a positive that was lobbied for, allowing them to show up wherever they like. For others, it felt a little like WWE effectively saying it either didn't know what to do with them, or even worse, it simply didn't care.

Baron Corbin Returns To NXT

Previously not a good sign for Baron Corbin who was dubbed a free agent during the draft, WWE now appears to have a firm plan in place for the former Lone Wolf. Seeing off Bron Breakker at Battleground, Carmelo Hayes is now sans challenger for his NXT Title. Especially amid reports Breakker will be getting called up. That's where Corbin comes in.

Hayes actually did find a challenger on Tuesday night. Heritage Cup holder, Noam Dar. After disposing of Dar later in the show, Corbin saw his window and attacked Hayes after he had already been softened up by the Scot. Corbin didn't say anything, but he didn't need to. After hitting the champ with an End of Days, Corbin stood over Hayes, holding the NXT Title aloft.

Back For Gold

Corbin competed in NXT for four years, but he didn't win a single championship while he was there. The former US Champion is clearly back to do something he has never done before, and he's going after the biggest prize NXT's men's division has to offer. As for whether Corbin will be able to get that done, whenever his imminent title match happens, that seems unlikely.

Corbin wasn't the only free agent from the main roster to show up on NXT this week. Mustafa Ali, someone else who didn't win gold while previously on the brand, also returned, seemingly getting himself mixed up with Tyler Bate and North American Champion, Wes Lee. It looks like there's about to be a lot of crossover between NXT and the main roster. Not only via Ali and Corbin but also the aforementioned call-ups rumored to be coming soon.
