Brandi Rhodes Makes A Decision On Her Wrestling Future

Highlights

  • Brandi Rhodes retired from wrestling and explained that it wasn't the best decision for her family to continue traveling and being on the road.
  • Despite retiring, there is a possibility of seeing Brandi Rhodes in WWE in a different role, such as a valet or backstage manager.
  • While she won't be announcing Cody Rhodes' entrance on Raw, Samantha Irvin is still the ring announcer and set to keep her position.

When Cody Rhodes left AEW last year, his wife, Brandi Rhodes, left with him. Brandi, who joined WWE in 2011 to work with their developmental FCW brand ended up becoming a ring announcer. It was in WWE where she met Cody Rhodes. When he left WWE, she left with him. It was then that Brandi's wrestling career reignited in places like Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor. She even got in the ring in AEW, and had just started a program with Paige VanZant and Dan Lambert, which abruptly came to an end when she and Cody left the company.

Ever since Cody Rhodes returned to WWE, one question has been, will Brandi Rhodes join him? She has yet to appear on WWE TV, though there were reports that she was training at WWE's Performance Center. In an interview to promote Cody's new Peacock documentary, American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes, due out on July 31, Brandi was asked by Chris Van Vliet whether she is retired. "For sure. Yeah, I mean, it was really anticlimactic. But yes, I did. I just said you know what? Okay, well, we are either gonna do this the Becky Lynch/Seth Rollins way. And they are amazing for doing it, because I can’t. It just was too hard, well not too hard, but just something that I just didn’t think would be the best for the family.” (h/t Cageside Seats)

Why Did Brandi Rhodes Retire From Wrestling?

Speaking with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Brandi Rhodes expanded on her decision to call it quits in the squared circle. “So yeah, we did a little trial to say, you know, how does this whole thing work with a baby and a bus and traveling, and Becky Lynch can do it. Well, let me just say, guys, Becky Lynch can do anything. Brandi, however, kind of threw in the towel after that.

“It was really fun. It was really great, but I could tell pretty quickly, it wasn’t going to work for this family to travel together and be on the road. I’ve got a little girl who’s extremely social and active and like was itching to start doing school and things like that. I was just like, ‘You know what? I was planning on throwing in the towel like a year from now anyway. So what’s one year, really?’”

While Brandi Rhodes' in ring career may be done, maybe we can still see her back in WWE in some capacity, whether as a valet, backstage manager, or returning to her old job of being a ring announcer. Just don't look for her to announce Cody Rhodes' entrance to the ring on Raw. There's no way Samantha Irvin is losing that gig.
