Chevy Chase Reveals He Was Recently Hospitalized
While the details of his recent hospitalization have not been revealed, Chevy Chase has a history of heart problems. In 2018, the The Washington Post revealed that Chase had been diagnosed with alcohol cardiomyopathy, a condition in which your heart muscles weaken due to long-term alcohol abuse (via Healthline). Chase further opened up about his health in the 2018 interview, sharing that after a long history with alcohol addiction, he was sober and ready to start working again.
Nowadays, though, Chase seems to be content keeping a low profile, especially due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. "I used to go out and do anything. I'd do slapstick in front of 3,000 people. But at this moment I have no need to go out and meet COVID," he told Page Six.
Chase then revealed to the outlet that he was spending his free time at home consuming plenty of content, though he wasn't too fond of what he was seeing. "I read. Turn on TV. Watch the news. All drek. I see actors, comedians, producers, screenwriters working and, God bless them, but I don't see anything great on television," he said. "The humor today's giving the next generation worse stuff than they already have in their own lives. It drives me nuts."
While Chase isn't much of a fan of the direction that modern comedy is going, it seems that he's at least getting plenty of time to recuperate at home following his health scare.
