Chris Jericho's Career Told In Photos, Through The Years
Chris Jericho has had an outstanding wrestling career, and his time in various wrestling promotions is best told in these photographs. One of Jericho’s best qualities outside of his in-ring abilities and talking skills is his penchant for reinvention, having evolved constantly over the course of his over 30-year career. That kind of evolution means that he’s changed his look a number of times, so let’s take a look at all of them, starting from the worst and working towards the best.
11 Chris Jericho Looks His Worst With Short Hair
Jericho In Trunks Looks Weird, Too
Jericho Short Hair Era | Accomplishments |
2007-2018 | WWE Intercontinental Champion, World Heavyweight Champion, World Tag Team Champion, WWE United States Champion |
For most of his career — including today in AEW — Chris Jericho has sported long hair, but there was about an 11-year period where he actually kept it pretty short. For much of that period Jericho sported short hair with a spiked-up front, citing the fact that, at the time, only older wrestlers had long hair. While that’s fair, with that change came a switch from long tights to trunks, which made the veteran star look weirdly naked compared to all of his other looks.
10 Jericho As One Half Of The Thrillseekers
Jericho and Lance Storm Looked Like Generic Babyfaces
Thrillseekers Run | Accomplishments |
1993-1995 | CRMW Tag Team Champions |
One of Chris Jericho’s oldest friends in pro wrestling is fellow Canuck Lance Storm, with whom Jericho was in a tag team in the early 1990s. Initially known as Sudden Impact on the Canadian indies and in Japan, the pair adopted a new name, The Thrillseekers, during their time in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Presented as heartthrob babyfaces, Jericho and Storm had gear to match, which at times could be colorful but was perhaps a little too generic in retrospect.
9 Lionheart Chris Jericho Was Jericho’s Babyface Persona
Jericho Had This Nickname In Japan & In WCW
Lionheart Run | Accomplishments As Lionheart |
1994-1998 | WAR International Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, WAR International Junior Heavyweight Champion |
As a solo wrestler, Chris Jericho went by Lionheart, which was his ring name in Japan and a nickname in the West. Wrestling for New Japan Pro-Wrestling and WCW with the gimmick — before he turned heel, of course — “Lionheart” Chris Jericho actually had some pretty cool gear in the form of his black trunks with yellow accents. It was memorable enough that, when Jericho briefly reverted to the persona in AEW, he wore gear that recreated the look.
8 Jericho Wrestled In Mexico As Corazon De Leon
Corazon De Lion Appeared in CMLL and AAA
Corazon De Leon Run | Accomplishments As Corazon De Leon |
1992-1996 | WWA World Tag Team Champion, NWA World Middleweight Champion |
While Corazon De Leon obviously translates to “Lionheart,” special attention should be paid to Chris Jericho’s career in Mexico. From 1993 to 1995, Jericho was a regular in Mexico’s longest-running promotion, CMLL, and made at least one appearance in AAA with the gimmick.
10 Things Fans Should Know About Mexican Wrestling Promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide
Let’s take a look at what fans should know about AAA, including its history, major events, and some notable working relationships it's had.On top of that, he had some unique looks during this era. While he could be seen in his usual long tights, Jericho also surprisingly wore bicycle short style trunks during this era, not to mention a jacket with very colorful Macho Man-esque fringe.
7 Super Liger Is A Forgotten Chris Jericho Gimmick
It Was Disastrous, But The Outfit Was Cool
Only Super Liger Match | Event | Date |
Super Liger vs. Koji Kanemoto | NJPW Wrestling World In Tokyo Dome | 1/4/1997 |
One obscure aspect of Chris Jericho’s career, especially in Japan, was his one-off appearance as Super Liger, the villainous rival to beloved junior heavyweight icon Jushin Thunder Liger. With a silver palette swap of Jushin Liger’s classic outfit, Super Liger’s outfit is solidly a win. What wasn’t a win was Jericho’s performance in the suit, which proved to be restricting and interfered with his vision, resulting in a severely disappointing match — which explains why Jericho only portrayed the gimmick once.
6 Jericho Had A Unique Look In His WWE Debut
The Shiny Club Shirt Is Weirdly Iconic
Chris Jericho WWE Debut | Date | Location |
WWE Monday Night Raw | 8/9/1999 | Chicago, IL |
After WCW refused to really give him a chance, Chris Jericho jumped ship to WWE, making his debut on an August 1999 episode of Raw to trade barbs with The Rock. While it was a landmark moment — albeit one that has its detractors — Y2J’s look during this segment was particularly memorable. Wearing the ridiculously goofy top knot that kind of became his thing in WCW, Jericho also wore a ridiculous, sparkly club shirt that, in retrospect, anticipates his light-up jacket from about 13 years later.
5 The Painmaker Is Chris Jericho’s Sinister Alter Ego
It’s Goofy, But In A Fun Way
Chris Jericho Modern NJPW Appearances | Accomplishments |
2018-2019 | IWGP Intercontinental Champion |
Super Liger may have been a failure, but Chris Jericho wrestled as himself on numerous occasions in New Japan. After 20 years away from the company, Jericho returned to NJPW in 2018 after his departure from WWE, debuting a new persona: The Painmaker. Influenced by Freddy Krueger and the DC Comics character Lobo, The Painmaker proved to be one of Jericho’s more unique and fun personas — albeit totally goofy — with a different look: Jericho wears a hat, a scarf, and a spiked leather jacket, not to mention some simple face paint over his eyes and lips.
4 Jericho Began Wearing A Light Up Jacket In 2016
Dean Ambrose Later Destroyed It
Light Up Jacket Debut | Date | Destroyed | Date |
WWE Raw | 1/2/2012 | WWE Raw | 5/9/2016 |
In the fall of 2010, Jericho departed WWE, but returned to the company in early 2012. While he still looked about the same as when he left — short hair and trunks — he did add a new, fun element to his visual presentation: a light-up jacket.
10 Best Pieces Of Entrance Gear In WWE History
Entrance gear helps set the tone for an upcoming match, and in WWE history, these particular pieces of gear have stood out the most.During this run, Jericho worked both babyface and heel with varying results, but the light-up jacket was definitely a cool way to spruce up the veteran’s gimmick at this point in his career.
3 Jericho’s “List Of Jericho” Era Was More Than A Clipboard
He Also Wore A Vest & Too Many Scarves
List Of Jericho Run | Accomplishments During The List Of Jericho Run |
2016-2018 | WWE United States Champion (2x) |
During his 2010s WWE return, it occasionally felt like Chris Jericho had plateaued as the veteran midcarder that fans like to see because they remember his great work in the past, but weren’t getting anything new from him these days. As 2016 went on, Jericho ended up introducing the List of Jericho gimmick, where he’d write down the names of people who crossed him. To go along with that, Jericho added some wrinkles to his look to make him seem even more annoying, such as scarves and wearing a vest with no shirt.
2 Chris Jericho Has His Own Unique Look In AEW
It Involves A Wide Variety Of Jackets
AEW Run | Accomplishments In AEW |
2019-Present | AEW World Champion, ROH World Champion |
After leaving WWE and growing his hair out, Chris Jericho became one of the foundations of the newly created All Elite Wrestling in 2019. Rather than rest on his laurels by reiterating old looks — though he’s done that on occasion for special matches — Jericho began to sport a whole new look. Often wearing leather pants, Jericho tends to don leather jackets to go along with them, but with lots of intricate designs and additions like spikes, studs, and fringe. It’s a look no doubt befitting a wrestler who also fronts a heavy metal band.
1 WCW Monday Night Jericho Was Chris Jericho’s Best Era
Jericho Had An Iconic T-Shirt To Go With His Antics
WCW Run | Accomplishments |
1996-1999 | WCW World Cruiserweight Champion (5x), WCW World Television Champion |
As stated, Chris Jericho’s WCW run started with him working his babyface “Lionheart” gimmick. Once he turned heel, Jericho hit an unprecedented level as an annoying heel. Feeling that there was a conspiracy against him, Jericho became a little unhinged, started putting up his hair in top knots described as “chaotic,” and began wearing a T-shirt that parodied the WCW Monday Nitro logo that read “Monday Night Jericho.” The T-shirt is a classic one, and Jericho’s look during this era helped establish him as a cult favorite among fans, even if WCW didn’t utilize him to his full extent.
