Damian Priest Defeats Sheamus For The United States Championship At SummerSlam

Damian Priest is the new WWE United States Champion following his win over Sheamus at SummerSlam.

It all went down in the third match of the main show at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two big men beat the hell out of each other, and Sheamus actually had the upper hand for a good portion of the match. But when all was said and done, it was Damian Priest who walked away with the gold after he hit Sheamus with the Reckoning and pinned the now-former champ clean in the middle of the ring.

As you might recall, Sheamus won the United States Championship from Riddle at WrestleMania back in April following a unique Brogue Kick that left the former champ bloodied.

Priest signed for WWE in 2018 after a three-year stint with Ring Of Honor where he performed under the name Punishment Martinez. The former ROH World Television Champion reported for duty at WWE's developmental brand, NXT, and made his debut at a TV taping at which he lost his first-ever WWE match to the aforementioned Matt Riddle.

Priest's NXT run was fairly brief but not entirely uneventful. He won the NXT North American Championship in a ladder match at NXT TakeOver: XXX, which he lost 67 days later to Johnny Gargano.

Bad Bunny and Damian Priest

The 38-year-old made his main roster debut at the 2021 Royal Rumble and debuted on Raw the following night. Prest allied himself with hip-hop megastar Bad Bunny, who was feuding with The Miz at the time. At WrestleMania back in April, Priest and Bunny defeated The Miz and John Morrison in a critically acclaimed match that took many fans by surprise.

With his SummerSlam victory, Priest begins his second reign as a champion in WWE -- here's hoping he holds this title longer than he held its NXT counterpart.
