Devin Haney Reacts To Shakur Stevenson's Win Over Edwin De Los Santos

Highlights

  • Devin Haney criticized Shakur Stevenson's victory over De Los Santos, calling him a "bum" and mocking his performance.
  • The anticipated matchup between Haney and Stevenson seems unlikely due to public spats and disagreements over a fair split for the fight.
  • Haney is set to move up to the super lightweight division to face Regis Prograis, but is open to returning to lightweight for big fights. Stevenson apologized to Mayweather, Crawford, and Ward for his lackluster performance.

Devin Haney put Shakur Stevenson on blast over his labored victory over Edwin De Los Santos. Stevenson attained a three-division champion status with the win, which often drew boos from the audience. Hailing from Newark, New Jersey, Stevenson heavily leaned on his defensive skills to thwart De Los Santos' offense in a match characterized by a scarcity of punches. Notably, Stevenson failed to achieve a double-digit punch output in any of the 12 rounds.

In August 2023, the WBC declared the title vacant and named Haney a champion in recess, which left the title up for grabs with Stevenson taking advantage of the opportunity. The highly anticipated clash between Haney and Stevenson has been a major topic of discussion in the boxing world in 2023. However, the prospects of this matchup materializing soon seem dim. The boxers have engaged in public spats, primarily sparked by Stevenson's refusal to accept a 25% split for a bout against the then undisputed lightweight world champion, Haney.

Before interest in the Stevenson clash, Haney expressed his desire to move up to the super lightweight title division. Haney is still the unified champion at lightweight and has claimed that he is willing to return to the division for big fights.
