Do Kim & Kourtney Kardashian Loathe Each Other? Why They Always Fight
Kourtney and Kim Kardashian seem like they are always at odds over the years but don't seem to hate each other. A need to be alpha keeps them apart.
Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian are starting a new era on The Kardashians, but the same old power struggle could rear its ugly head between the sisters. As the oldest siblings, Kim and Kourtney have never quite determined who the alpha dog is. Kourtney is the oldest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, not to mention a fiery Aries. However, Kim is the ultimate business empress who frequently takes credit for giving Kourtney a career. There’s often a subliminal need to know who’s in charge when it comes to the women. Between Kourtney and Kim, it never was settled.
In the early days of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the sisterly dynamic was very much Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian versus Kim. The now-billionaire was obsessed with fame and fortune, while Kourtney and Khloé still enjoyed practical jokes, wrestling, and making fun of Kim’s self-obsession. As time went on, Kourtney grew more independent and focused on her kids, her peace of mind, and a desire to be out of the limelight. Kourtney was also working on releasing toxic energy built up during her tumultuous relationship with Scott Disick. During this time, Khloé shifted allegiances and grew closer to Kim. Kim also relaxed immensely over time, which allowed her and Khloé to get closer.
Khloé’s allyship is a marker for who’s winning. After years of feeling isolated from her sisters, the sibling one-upping came to a boiling point with Kourtney. She liked to live by her own rules and her own timeline. Kim and Khloé grew tired of Kourtney's consistent tardiness and unwillingness to accommodate others’ agendas due to her busy schedule of being a mom. Kim and many other family members grew frustrated and pointed out that Kourtney did not work as much as the rest of them. This point of tension led Kim to infamously say Kourtney was the “least interesting to look at.” They can laugh about it now, but the rude commentary cut deep at the time.
A second cycle of the same fight involving Kendall Jenner resulted in a rough physical altercation between Kourtney and Kim. When Kim insinuated that Kourtney didn’t work hard for the umpteenth time, Kourtney came for Kim. The two grabbed each other repeatedly before Kourtney dug her nails into Kim, and Kim smacked Kourtney in the face repeatedly. Khloé tried to break things up, noting her daughter sleeping in the other room. The physical altercation was the pinnacle of years of tension. The claws come out when two alpha energies have been trying to pull rank for years.
Ultimately, Kourtney is the older sibling and the less likely character to go along with someone else’s agenda. In this way, she is the bigger authority. It doesn’t seem like the sisters hate each other; instead, the issue appears to be that neither can stomach the idea of submitting to each others’ agenda. The Kardashians are pack animals, and every pack needs an alpha.
