Does Sarah Die In Outer Banks Season 3?
The characters in the Netflix series Outer Banks face a lot of life-threatening situations, and Sarah Cameron has been in danger more than once.
Because of the nature of the show, the Outer Banks characters are frequently in danger, but does fan-favorite character Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) actually die in Outer Banks season 3? In Outer Banks, the wealthy class of seasonal residents are referred to as "Kooks" while the working-class locals are called "Pogues." Sarah is technically a Kook because of her rich family, but she frequently spends time with the Pogues and falls for John B (Chase Stokes). The primary plot of Outer Banks involves the main characters searching for treasure, which puts them in both legal and physical danger.
At the start of Outer Banks, Sarah is close with her father Ward (Charles Esten). However, the divisiveness between Sarah and Ward intensifies when it is revealed Ward's family man persona is a front to hide his true nature. During the Outer Banks season 3 ending, Sarah, John B, and John B's father Big John (Charles Halford) are in South America looking for the Royal Merchant treasure while running from Ward and Charles Singh (Andy McQueen). In an epic moment, Sarah is held at gunpoint by one of Singh's men, putting her life in jeopardy.
Sarah Does Not Die In Outer Banks Season 3
Even though Sarah seems to be in imminent danger in the Outer Banks season 3 finale, she does not die. Earlier in the finale, Sarah confronts her father and disarms him while pointing out that he will never be able to harm her. When one of Singh's men aims his gun at Sarah, Ward gives her a knowing look and throws himself at the man, saving Sarah. Ward is shot, and after they collide, he and the man fall over a cliff to their deaths. When Big John is also killed in the finale, Sarah and John B return to the Outer Banks having both lost their fathers.
While Ward's sacrifice for Sarah is an emotional one, it was the only way for his character to have a redeemable arc. After all the harm he caused, Ward needed to die in order to wrap up the Royal Merchant treasure storyline. By saving his daughter as his final act, Ward showed he still had some humanity left and proved that his love for Sarah was genuine. In the end, Ward's death in Outer Banks gives Sarah the opportunity to process their complicated relationship. Back at the Outer Banks, Sarah pays tribute to her dad and is able to come to terms with his actions, good and bad.
Sarah Actor Madelyn Cline Says Her Outer Banks Character Is "Very, Very Badass"
When Sarah is first introduced in Outer Banks, the Pogues look down on her because of her affluent background, and she is referred to as the "Kook Princess." As she spends more time with John B and the Pogues, Sarah proves that she cannot only be carefree, but also resourceful and brave. When Outer Banks season 3 premiered on Netflix, Cline discussed Sarah's arc with Entertainment Weekly, saying, "She's learned so much about herself in such a short amount of time at such a young age, and she's very, very badass."
Before the third season, Sarah had already survived other near-death experiences including being shot by her brother Rafe (Drew Starkey) in Outer Banks season 2. John B takes her to a doctor to be operated on, but Sarah nearly dies because of the procedure. Through her adventures with John B and the Pogues, Sarah evolves from a sheltered teenager to a strong and fearless explorer.
