Every Faction Leader In AEW Today, Ranked Worst To Best

AEW has used factions as a main element of its storytelling since its inception. Teams like The Elite and The Inner Circle were integral in the beginning, leading to other groups like The Pinnacle and the Blackpool Combat Club also rising to prominence as these factions would fight each other for supremacy.

Now, there are loads of factions within AEW that offer different styles of professional wrestling, with some being hardcore wrestling purists and others being comedy jobbers. Every faction also has its leader, which differentiates them from the rest of the group as the figurehead of what they stand for as a unit.

10 Swerve Strickland (Mogul Embassy)

Swerve Strickland in AEW

Swerve is absolutely fantastic and a guaranteed future AEW title contender, but as a character, he is a terrible faction leader. His Mogul Embassy loses members as quickly as it gains them, leading to Swerve looking like an indecisive and temperamental figure.

It is not helped that the group has not really had any screen time together or an actual story to dig into, with Swerve’s feud with Keith Lee still being unresolved. His recent mini-feud with Darby Allin has at least been successful in establishing Swerve as an up-and-coming heel, with Prince Nana by his side.

9 Evil Uno (The Dark Order)

The Dark Order will forever be an important faction in AEW’s history, but it has arguably run its purpose for the individuals still involved. The sentimental favourites have now withered down to just Evil Uno, John Silver and Alex Reynolds.

All three men have demonstrated their all-around abilities as great in-ring workers and funny and endearing comedy characters. However, all have now stagnated somewhat as the Dark Order has become less important over time. Evil Uno especially could do with finding something else to do.

8 PAC (Death Triangle)

PAC AEW

There might not be a better in-ring trio in AEW than Death Triangle, with their pace and daredevilry being a thrilling watch every time they wrestle. However, their infrequent time together as a unit does somewhat affect how much they can be perceived as a top team.

When they are together though they are one of the most exciting acts in the company.

7 Jeff Jarrett

It is insane that in the year 2023, Jeff Jarrett is still an on-screen figure within wrestling and fans are actually enjoying him. Double J has found the perfect role as a traditional baddie who draws immense heat from the crowd as he looks to upset their favourites.

His group is also very entertaining with Jay Lethal being the workhorse, Satnam Singh being the muscle and Sonjay Dutt being an annoyance outside the ring. They all gel together well to make a faction that is able to oppose any of the face teams on the roster.

6 Orange Cassidy (Best Friends)

Orange Cassidy

The Best Friends have long been one of the most wholesome acts on the AEW roster, with Orange Cassidy acting as the unbothered leader as the singles star. The group has not always been profiled as a major act within the company, but they always deliver when it happens.

Orange himself is a great if different sort of leader as his relaxed but loveable style is emblematic of the group itself. Their matches as a team are also always great, whether it be the Parking Lot Brawls or Stadium Stampedes.

5 Will Ospreay (United Empire)

Despite not officially being a member of the AEW roster (yet), Will Ospreay has been featured greatly throughout this year with his United Empire and affiliation with Don Callis. His feuds with Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega have shown how Ospreay has developed into one of the best wrestlers in the world.

If Ospreay does end up in AEW as a fully fledged roster member at some point then his faction may become an even more important part of the promotion.

4 Malakai Black (House of Black)

The former AEW Trios Champions, the House of Black, have become a cult favourite within the promotion as their gothic aesthetic and physical in-ring style capture the attention of the audience. Malakai Black embodies this as their leader as he has heralded a new era for the trios division within AEW.

Black could easily be a singles star in AEW which makes his inclusion as part of the group feel like a concerted effort to get his partners over. There may not be a better combination of wrestlers within the whole industry at the moment as they all complement each other so well.

3 Jay White (Bullet Club Gold)

The Bang Bang Gang have been a revelation as part of Collision in recent weeks, becoming the hottest new faction within AEW. The bombastic nature of Juice Robinson combined so well with the arrogance of The Gunns, whilst Jay White acts perfectly as the more serious leader of the group.

‘Switchblade’ is slowly working his way towards challenging for world titles, which he could easily win and lead his faction to the top of the card. More Elite versus Bullet Club action would be welcome too, especially if Kenny Omega were to want to face off against Jay White once again.

2 Kenny Omega (The Elite)

Speaking of the ‘Best Bout Machine,’ Omega has acted as the de facto leader of The Elite for years as its standout singles star, which is easy to do as one of the best wrestlers of all time. Kenny leads by example as a performer who always gives his all in the ring, especially when he is alongside his stablemates with whom he formed AEW.

The Young Bucks and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page are equally Important to The Elite being such a success, but Omega makes it one of the most important factions in wrestling history.

1 Jon Moxley (The Blackpool Combat Club)

The Blackpool Combat Club may not have reached the heights of previous stables in AEW, with some mixed results with the storylines the faction has been involved in. However, it has been a perfect way to transition Jon Moxley away from title contention after being in the mix for the World Championship for the better part of three years.

Moxley has helped his BCC associates get over as a result of being alongside the three-time AEW Champion, particularly Wheeler Yuta who is now a made man in the company. The way that Jon Moxley leads is so believable too, as his tough love and protective style is something all fans can relate to.
