Every Sami Zayn WrestleMania Match, Ranked From Worst To Best

It is crazy to think that Sami Zayn has now been on WWE’s main roster for seven years, and in that time he has wrestled at six different WrestleManias to date. Zayn is someone who can always be relied upon to forth a strong performance, though he hasn’t always been afforded the highest profile of matches at the biggest show of the year.

Zayn himself has never really had a bad showing at WrestleMania, though in particular events some of the matches with less quality were slightly worse due to things out of his control, such as the booking and production of said matches.

6 Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, WrestleMania 33 Kickoff

Sami Zayn’s lowest profile appearance at a WrestleMania came at WrestleMania 33 where he was confined to the kickoff show. He was a competitor in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Zayn had a strong showing, although he finished fourth in the match behind Killian Dain, Jinder Mahal, and Mojo Rawley.

In the long term, Zayn would have been the best choice for a winner in this match. It was quite a shock when he got thrown out due to how popular he was. The rest of the match was pretty basic, with Braun Strowman and Big Show getting eliminated remarkably early despite being the two favorites. The cameo appearance from Rob Gronkowski was fun, but Rawley as the choice of winner was incredibly underwhelming.

5 Sami Zayn Vs Daniel Bryan, WrestleMania 36 Night 1

Sami Zayn Vs Daniel Bryan

On paper, Sami Zayn vs Daniel Bryan for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania seems like the perfect recipe for something truly special. However, there were many barriers that got in the way of this ever becoming a classic. During this time, Zayn was within his phase of being a cowardly heel who managed to sneak his way to the gold, and it resulted in him spending most of the match just running away from Bryan.

Both played their roles well, and for the most part, they did exactly what they were going for, but the issue was that WWE didn’t let them just go ahead and wrestle. It was overbooked, and Zayn’s talents in the ring weren’t able to shine. This had a lot of potential, and it wasn’t necessarily bad, but it was just underwhelming for the most part.

4 Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens Vs Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon, WrestleMania 34

After months of build, with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens being the thorn in the side of SmackDown’s authority figures, Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan, a huge tag team match was set for WrestleMania 34. Not just that, but it was notable for marking Daniel Bryan’s return to the ring after several years off with an early, albeit temporary, retirement.

In terms of classic tag team psychology, this was quite basic but very well executed, as Bryan was attacked before the bell, with McMahon acting as the babyface in peril for a while. Bryan’s hot tag and official return to action was a great moment, with Zayn and Owens playing the perfect punching bags to his huge comeback. The night was all about Bryan, and it was a pretty strong return.

3 Sami Zayn Vs Kevin Owens, WrestleMania 37 Night 2

Whenever Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are across the ring from one another, fans can be assured that they are going to see a good match at the absolute worst. Even at WrestleMania 37, when Zayn was saddled with a conspiracy theorist gimmick, and with much of the focus being at ringside with Zayn’s celebrity social media star guest of honor, Logan Paul, the pair of best friends turned enemies still had a standout battle.

With a better storyline, this would have been far more intense, but these two replayed all the classic hits and paid reference to their previous matches in WWE too, so it did deliver. The post-match left fans happy too as Kevin Owens laid Paul out with a Stunner to a huge ovation.

2 Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match, WrestleMania 32

Sami Zayn’s first WrestleMania is still one of his better ones. WrestleMania 32 opened with a Ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship, and it stole the show. Even with a slightly lackluster field, everyone else involved in this match including Kevin Owens, The Miz, Stardust, Sin Cara, Zack Ryder, and Dolph Ziggler, all rose to the occasion and opened the show with a bang.

There were countless huge spots, and Zayn was involved in a few, including a dive through a ladder onto a sea of wrestlers on the outside, and when he suplexed Owens onto a ladder in a brutal-looking spot. Speaking of Owens, the brawling and sequences between him and Zayn were one of the major highlights of this bout. Ryder’s victory was a fantastic moment as it shocked everyone in attendance.

1 Sami Zayn Vs Johnny Knoxville, WrestleMania 38 Night 2

Sami Zayn WrestleMania 38

Whilst it wasn’t the most polished or well-wrestled match ever, the clash between Sami Zayn and Johnny Knoxville will go down as one of the most fun and bizarre matches in WrestleMania history, and it is to date the best match Zayn has ever had at the show.

Knoxville brought his Jackass crew and all the shenanigans that came with them, which resulted in an array of unique spots and moments throughout which brought the fans to their feet time and time again. Zayn was an incredible professional here by putting over the celebrity, but he looked great coming out of it as he played a brilliant role in ensuring this match was held together and structured well. This was one of the highlights of WrestleMania 38, and it will be remembered fondly for many years to come as a fun feud and an even better match.
