Every Song, 4*Town Singers & Where To Listen
Turning Red's movie soundtrack is filled with original songs and a couple of fun throwbacks. Here is your guide to every song and who sings them.
Warning: Minor spoilers ahead for Turning Red.
Pixar’s Turning Red has a plethora of original songs — here’s your guide to every song on the film’s soundtrack. Directed by Domee Shi from a script by her and Julia Cho, Turning Red explores Mei’s life as a 13-year-old whose adolescent changes (and specifically into a fluffy red panda) heavily impacts the relationship she has with her mother Ming Lee.
Meilin “Mei” Lee is an average 13-year-old. She loves to hang out with her friends, she’s confident in herself, a good student, and enjoys the music of a popular boy band called 4*Town. She is also starting to have crushes on boys, but she dare not admit such things to her mom Ming, who is overprotective and overbearing. While Mei loves her mom and is close to her, she can’t seem to find it in herself to step out of her shadow. Their relationship is truly put to the test when Mei begins poofing into a fluffy red panda on account of an ancient familial blessing/curse.
One of the things that makes a Pixar animation stand out is the music and Turning Red is no exception. It boasts several original songs — penned by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell — for the film’s in-universe boy band 4*Town. However, Turning Red doesn’t consist only of 4*Town songs, with at least one major throwback to the early aughts that will leave viewers feeling just a little bit nostalgic. Here is every song in Turning Red and who exactly are the voices behind 4*Town.
Every Song On Turning Red's Soundtrack
“Nobody Like U” by 4*Town - This song is featured throughout the film in various scenes. 4*Town is heard singing it throughout and after Mei's friends realize she's a red panda, they sing "Nobody Like U" to make her feel better about the situation after she was freaking out.
“U Know What’s Up” - “U Know What’s Up" is another 4*Town number that plays during Mei and her friends’ “Operation 4*Town Shakedown” montage in which they use the fluffy red panda to get money to go to the concert.
“1 True Love” by 4*Town - This is a love ballad performed by 4*Town (they’re mermaids in the music video) that plays at the midway point in the Pixar film.
“Bootylicious” by Destiny’s Child - This song plays as Mei is finally getting comfortable with herself as the red panda, coming into her own and accepting that she can possibly control when she transforms.
“Cha Cha Slide” by DJ Casper - “Cha Cha Slide” plays during Tyler’s party as a way to try and get everyone on dancing so they’re not focused on the fact that Mei is late.
“Pandas Unite/Nobody Like U” by 4*Town - This is the final song in the film, a mixture of Ludwig Göransson’s score and 4*Town’s hit “Nobody Like U,” which they perform in a bid to help with the red panda reversal ritual to bring Mei’s mom, grandma, and aunts back to themselves before their change becomes permanent.
Who Voices & Sings 4*Town's Songs In Turning Red
The boy band is made up of Robaire, Jesse, Aaron T., Aaron Z., and Tae Young. While 4*Town doesn’t speak much, their singing voices are provided by The Flash's Jordan Fisher, Finneas O’Connell, Topher Ngo, Josh Levi, and Grayson Villanueva, respectively. O’Connell (known professionally as FINNEAS) co-wrote 4*Town’s songs for Turning Red with sister and singer Billie Eilish and they had a lot of fun doing so. Fisher and Levi are musicians in their own right as well and it’s Fisher’s voice who is heard most clearly in the songs since Robaire is the lead singer.
