Over the last seven years, there have been few female wrestlers in WWE, outside of perhaps the Four Horsewomen of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, and Sasha Banks, who have been as successful as Alexa Bliss. After becoming the first person to ever win both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles, she would tally up her reigns to become a five-time World Champion in WWE. In addition, she has three Women’s Tag Team Title reigns to her name, alongside Nikki Cross and Asuka, as well as a Money in the Bank Ladder Match victory. Her ascent to superstardom has been great to watch, and it is interesting to go all the way back to see how she managed to make the climb up the ladder to become such a prominent WWE superstar.
Alexa Bliss Was Naturally Athletic From A Young Age
Alexa Bliss, like many WWE superstars over the years, has been involved in sports from a very young age. In addition, she would also train in the likes of kickboxing and MMA, which were done to help her build confidence too after being picked on for her size. This all gave her a perfect groundwork to get into the shape needed to become a WWE superstar. Unlike some who have sporting backgrounds, where the company actively seeks out athletes even if they have never necessarily had the dream of becoming a professional wrestler, Bliss had been a fan from an early age, with becoming a WWE superstar being one of her dreams. Bliss followed the company when she was younger, as she would watch with her grandparents, as she was not allowed to watch at home. In an interview with the Ottawa Sun, Bliss noted her favorites and some of her inspirations growing up. “I loved watching Trish Stratus because she was so iconic and such a powerful woman. I loved watching Rey Mysterio because his lucha style reminded me so much of gymnastics. His style was so fascinating to me.” The likes of Stratus and Mysterio have been an influence to many, and it is easy to see why with their legendary status, star power, and huge talents.

When it came to entering the professional wrestling business, Bliss didn’t go down the route of independent wrestling. She instead set her sights directly on WWE. In her interview, Bliss went on to explain how she took a chance and a leap of faith to try and follow her dream. “I heard about a tryout, so I went to wwe.com and there was a link that said, ‘Do you want to be a WWE superstar?’ I said, ‘Yes, I do.’ So I clicked on it, I made a video and sent it in. I was called back, had a tryout and was signed to NXT.”

In Just Three Years, Alexa Bliss Became A World Champion
From there, Bliss found herself training in WWE developmental, with it not taking much time for her to start competing on NXT house shows. She clearly showcased a natural prowess for the professional wrestling business, as less than a year later she debuted on NXT TV in a tournament to crown a brand-new NXT Women’s Champion, after the former champion, Paige, had been called up to the main roster. She would defeat Alicia Fox in her first match, before losing to Charlotte Flair in the semi-finals.
