John Cena's Canceled 'Coyote Vs. Acme' Movie Might Have New Home Soon

Highlights

  • John Cena's movie Coyote vs. Acme, which was canceled by Warner Bros., is being offered for $70 million to potential buyers like Paramount, Apple, and Amazon. There is interest, especially from Paramount, which is considering a theatrical release.
  • Amazon is also considering bidding for the movie, although no formal bids have been made yet. Sony and Apple, on the other hand, are not expected to make bids.
  • Despite Cena's busy acting schedule, fans hope to see him at WrestleMania 40 next year, where he could seek redemption, possibly against Solo Sikoa or old rivals like Randy Orton and CM Punk. Cena's WWE career may be nearing its end, but his successful acting career will continue.

With the recent actors and writers strikes in Hollywood, WWE fans lucked out, getting a return from "the greatest of all-time", when 16-time world champion John Cena came back to WWE for a two-month run. With the strikes over, Cena is back to his acting career. He was part of some negative headlines not too long ago when his latest movie, the live action and animation hybrid Coyote vs. Acme, was canceled by Warner Bros., despite the fact that the entire movie was completely finished. The backlash led to Warner Bros. deciding to try to sell the movie to someone else.

Deadline Hollywood has an exclusive update on the progress of the film. According to them, Warner Bros. is asking for a whopping $70 million for Coyote vs. Acme. Reporter Anthony D'Alessandro said:

"It’s not just Netflix that made a bid for Warner Bros.’ scrapped Coyote vs. Acme. Paramount, Apple, and Amazon have also seen the movie as well. Of those, Paramount has made a bid, and the plus there is a theatrical release. The Melrose lot could use it on the 2024 release calendar. Debt-laden exhibitors would want it, too.

"Meanwhile, Amazon is mulling, I’m told, with no formal bids made. First, it takes longer over there to conduct business and get decisions through the proper channels... Sony and Apple aren’t making bids, sources say."

When Will John Cena Return To WWE?

John Cena has a very busy acting career. Just this year alone, he's had roles in Fast X, Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Vacation Friends 2, and Freelance. According to IMDb, he also has several more roles in production.

Despite his busy schedule, it's hard to believe that John Cena won't be part of WrestleMania 40 next year in Philadelphia. While Cena had a fun run this year in WWE, including winning a tag team match with LA Knight at his side at Fastlane against The Bloodline's Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, he also had an intriguing storyline which saw an aging Cena questioning himself and his future in wrestling, with it being years since he last won a singles match. Following a loss to Solo Sikoa at Crown Jewel last month, a dejected Cena waved goodbye to the crowd.

WrestleMania 40 offers Cena, who is now 46-years-old, a chance at redemption. There are several options out there for him. He could get his revenge on Solo Sikoa, or even go after old rivals, such as the returning Randy Orton and CM Punk. Whoever he wrestles, don't be surprised if it's one of the last times we ever see the leader of the Cenation in the wrestling ring. No matter when Cena's WWE career comes to an end, we have a long and successful acting career to keep seeing John Cena in. Hopefully, that involves the 2024 theatrical release of Coyote vs. Acme.
