John Cena's SummerSlam Merchandise Looks Exactly Like CM Punk T-Shirt Design

John Cena sported new merchandise for his Universal Championship match with Roman Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam 2021.

The design of the shirt looked awfully familiar to several wrestling fans who made note of it. As pointed out here by Connor Casey of ComicBook.com and several fans on Twitter, Cena isn't the first wrestler to wear a t-shirt that largely resembles the cover art of the classic Super Mario Bros. 3 video game.

As you can see below, Cena's new merchandise looks exactly like a CM Punk t-shirt that is available at Pro Wrestling Tees,

Following a seven and a half year hiatus from professional wrestling, CM Punk made his highly-anticipated AEW debut at Friday's Rampage special, The First Dance. The event was held at the United Center in Punk's hometown of Chicago, Illinois, setting the stage for one of the most historic nights in AEW's young history.

A day later, the SummerSlam pay-per-view was held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Biggest Party of the Summer featured the surprise returns of Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar, and that naturally led to speculation that WWE was simply responding to CM Punk's arrival in AEW.

Lynch returned and removed Carmella (initially named as Sasha Banks' replacement) from the SmackDown Women's Championship match. She quickly defeated Bianca Belair to become the new title champion.

Lesnar, sporting a new look, appeared after Reigns successfully defended his title over Cena. After the show went off air, the former WWE Champion suplexed Cena before hitting him with the F5 finisher.

A Wrestling Weekend For The Ages

This will go down as one of the greatest and most memorable weekends in the history of professional wrestling. CM Punk's thrilling AEW debut was followed by an action-packed SummerSlam event. One day later, WWE ran the NXT TakeOver 36 event that may or may not mark Adam Cole's final match in WWE.
