  • Cena is currently done with WWE due to the end of the writer's strike, and he has just undergone surgery. He expressed gratitude towards his medical team on Twitter and mentioned that he has one arm left to go.
  • Along with his surgery, Cena received negative news about a movie he worked on being shelved by Warner Bros. Cena has a history of injuries in WWE, and with his focus on TV and film, there is speculation about whether this latest surgery will push him closer to retirement.

The last two months have been a blast from the past having John Cena back in WWE. While the writer's strike kept Cena from working on his film roles, the "greatest of all-time" was showing up on SmackDown every week, and even competed in a few matches. In recent promos, the 46-year-old legend kept hinting at retirement. Following his loss to Solo Sikoa at last weekend's Crown Jewel, he waved goodbye to the fans.

While the end is most likely near for Cenation, for now John Cena is done with WWE following the news that the writer's strike has finally come to an end. Even if that wasn't the case, it looks like Cena was going to be out of the wrestling ring for a while anyway, as he revealed this morning that he just had surgery. Cena announced the news on Twitter, tweeting, "Thank you @JeffDugasMD and your entire team in Birmingham! One arm fixed, clean & headed for therapy … one arm left to go! Thank you again and see you ASAP for the next one!!"

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, "The nature of the surgery is not known at this time." It's not the only negative news for John Cena today. Yesterday came the announcement that a movie he had worked on, the live action and CGI animation hybrid Coyote Vs. Acme, about Wile E. Coyote, had been shelved by Warner Bros., despite the fact that the film had been completed.

John Cena's History Of Injuries In WWE

John Cena injury

At the press conference following Fastlane, John Cena spoke about the risks of wrestling while acting, saying, "I’ve made it clear that you can’t do both because of the liability insurance. If I were to try and juggle both, that’s very selfish because I would put a whole lot of people in the movie business out of work if something were to happen to me."

Cena has a long history of injuries in WWE. In 2007, he tore his pec, leading to that memorable shocking return at the 2008 Royal Rumble. He's had herniated discs, bone chips in his elbow, an Achilles tendon injury, a torn tricep, a broken nose, and a shoulder surgery as well. John Cena has always able to come back from those moments, but now he is much older and not a full-time performer. With his successful TV and film career being where most of his focus lies, you have to wonder if this latest surgery, which could delay any filming schedules, will push him even closer to retirement from wrestling. Crown Jewel certainly can't be how his career ends (a WrestleMania match seems the most fitting end), but don't be shocked if John Cena's WWE career is close to its end. We at The Sportster wish him the best in his recovery.
