Wrestling icon and Hollywood star John Cena recently unveiled his plans for retirement, aiming to step away from the ring before turning 50. Currently 46, that gives one of the greatest stars in the history of the business just under four years to do whatever he's got left to do in the industry as an in-ring performer. Not surprisingly, Cena is contemplating his final match and has expressed his desire for this farewell bout within the next few years and he's hoping to have it occur at the iconic O2 Arena in London, England.
In a recent interview, Cena, known for his roles in films like "Argylle" and "Barbie," affirmed that his retirement is imminent and not just a possibility. He stated, "That time is gonna come, and it's gonna come soon," signaling a definitive end to his illustrious wrestling career. His comments align with Cena's previous hints at bidding farewell to wrestling, even though he's not told the WWE Universe definitively he's saying goodbye.
John Cena Is Working On His WWE Exit Strategy
At the age of 46, John Cena knows his time is almost up in WWE. How soon until the leader of the Cenation has his last match?Speaking via Entertainment Tonight Cena explained:
“I made a promise to the consumer early on, to WWE fans, 'cause I know how tough it is to be a fan. You gotta come out of pocket -- & WWE has a ton of content -- it takes a lot to be a passionate fan & our fanbase is passionate & global. I never wanted to go out there just for the sake of going out there. And I'm gonna be 47 this year. I feel great. So inside I feel great, but I know what it takes to be a WWE performer night in & night out & I don't ever wanna just go out there & do it to do it. I wanna have the passion -- the same passion as the fanbase -- & I wanna give them exactly what they give me. The miles on the speedometer say, 'Hey, that's gotta be done before 50’, [that’s] the timeline I've put on myself."
As Cena prepares to exit the wrestling portion of his career, the prospect of his last match and potential opponents remains uncertain. However, with such big news taking over WWE this week, and with some major shows on the horizon, no one should be surprised if Cena works his way back into storylines in the near future.
Cena Knows Where He Wants To Say Goodbye
Acknowledging the passionate WWE fans in the UK, Cena emphasized the unique connection with the audience, stating, "Fans in the UK, WWE fans, they're the best, and fans in London specifically, they will let you know how they feel." Cena expressed a desire to choose the O2 Arena in London as the venue for his final match, underlining the significance of the UK audience in his wrestling journey.
