Kurt Angle's 1,000-Yard Stare Has Become A Viral Meme That Transcends Wrestling

Highlights

  • Kurt Angle's intense stare has become a viral meme, with people using it in various situations.
  • The clip is taken from Angle's first TikTok video and has been slowed down and turned into a meme.
  • Angle is known for his fun and playful side, so he will likely find the meme amusing and may even talk about it on his podcast.

There are moments in wrestling that have become memes so popular that non-wrestling fans use them, likely unaware of their origins. The one that immediately springs to mind is John Silver speaking to an uncomfortable Anna Jay, an image used to make jokes about people talking to someone about a topic they have zero interest in. Kurt Angle can now join that exclusive club as a clip of him staring menacingly into a camera has gone viral.

Kurt Angle's 1,000-Yard Stare

If you're still on Twitter - and like me you still refuse to call it X - then you've likely seen the close-up pic of the Olympic gold medalist countless times over the past few days, even if you don't follow many wrestling accounts. Out of context, Angle looks like he's just heard some unwelcome news and is about to retaliate physically against whoever delivered it. That's why the image has become perfect meme fodder, applied to countless situations since it started going viral.

What's interesting is this isn't a new video someone has pounced on and made famous right out of the gate. The clip has been taken from the very first video Angle posted on TikTok when he signed up to the social media site earlier this year. Detailing what fans can expect to see from him on the site, the video ends with Angle awkwardly staring into the camera. That's the moment that has been taken and slowed down in a lot of cases, and turned into a meme.

Will Angle Like The Meme?

Angle might come from a legitimate sporting background and has dedicated his life to being a physical specimen, but the Hall of Famer has been showing he has a fun, playful side throughout his pro wrestling career. Ever since he popped on a tiny cowboy hat and sang Jimmy Crack Corn to Vince McMahon. Separate occasions, equally as funny.

With that in mind, Angle will almost certainly see the funny side of becoming a meme. My guess is he talks about it on his podcast this week, or whenever he next records an episode. Please keep flooding social media with it until then. I've seen quite a few that have quite literally made me laugh out loud and I'm sure that'll happen a few more times before the internet moves onto the next viral meme.
