Martin Emert
Professional Background
Dr. Emert is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiac Electrophysiology. He is an Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist in the Cardiovascular Medicine Department at the University of Kansas Health System.
He is the Director of Ambulatory Cardiac Arrhythmia Device Services there as well.
He specializes in the management of patients with heart rhythm disorders, catheter-based ablation procedures, and cardiac device management including device implantation and device system explantation or extraction.
Dr. Emert believes, that in this time of advancing technology, it is even more important that healthcare providers keep the Patient as the number one priority.
He is a teacher, researcher, and extensively published author.
He also maintains a busy clinical practice in addition to performing complex electrophysiology procedures.
He graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC). After Medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland, he did an NIH Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, an American Heart Association Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, then a Cardiology, followed by an Electrophysiology Fellowship at Barnes Hospital-Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
He has participated in many national research studies, has been on various cardiac device company advisory boards and has published in numerous major peer reviewed journals throughout his career.
He is a teacher and faculty-mentor for medical students and residents at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, and for the doctors in the general cardiology and electrophysiology Fellowship Training Programs at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
He has directed and been an invited speaker at numerous local, national and international educational conferences.
He is a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the International Heart Rhythm Society.
His areas of interest include heart palpitations, arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, Cryo-Ablation and radiofrequency ablation, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular tachycardia (VT), and sudden cardiac death screening, prevention and treatment, cardiac pacemakers, implantable defibrillators (ICDs) and biventricular cardiac resynchronization therapy devices.
