MRI Overview

MRI Abdomen search pattern

  • T2 - (water is bright - fat is bright); spleen, pancreas, liver compared to paraspinal musculature
  • T2 fat-sat (fiesta) - (water is bright - fat is bright); vessels bright; good for anatomy (Axial and coronal views)
  • T1 in phase and out of phase - (water is dark - fat is bright); look for fatty infiltration of liver, adrenal adenoma
  • DWI - lesion detection; highly cellular tissues bright (tumor, neuro tissue, normal lymphatic tissue, bowel mucosa, endometrium)
  • T1- fat sat (lava flex) - (water dark - fat dark); look at pancreas; good to look for nodes;
  • T1 fat sat dynamic post contrast - look at all phases (arterial, portal venous, delayed, hepatobiliary agent - Eovist)
