Pat McAfee Has Signed A Multi-Year Contract Extension With WWE
Former NFL punter and beloved sports personality Pat McAfee is sticking around in WWE .
On Thursday afternoon, WWE announced that they have signed the SmackDown commentator to a multi-year contract extension. The length of the deal wasn't specified, but McAfee's fans can at least celebrate the news that he isn't going anywhere any time soon.
In April 2021, WWE moved McAfee to the SmackDown commentary table to work alongside Michael Cole. His charisma, enthusiasm and energy have made McAfee one of the most popular personalities in the wrestling world, so it's no surprise that the two sides were happy to work out a new deal.
McAfee has also wrestled several matches since joining WWE. He made his in-ring debut at NXT TakeOver XXX on Aug. 22, 2020 — losing a singles match to Adam Cole. McAfee faced Theory at WrestleMania at day two of WrestleMania 38 in a winning effort, but WWE chairman Vince McMahon defeated the former NFLer in a match that took place immediately after. McAfee will face Happy Corbin at SummerSlam 2022 on July 30 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Before he became one of the world's most well-known sports analysts/commentators, McAfee was the punter of the Indianapolis Colts from 2009 to 2016. McAfee was a two-time Pro Bowler who also earned a First-team All-Pro nod in the 2014 season. The Colts reached Super Bowl 44 in McAfee's rookie year, ultimately losing to the New Orleans Saints.
McAfee retired before his 30th birthday after the 2016 season to take up a sports commentary career. Fast forward five years later, and he's now one of the best in the business.
Great News For McAfee & WWE
McAfee's extension is a massive win for everybody involved. The loud ovations he generates from the crowds simply sum up the level of his popularity in the WWE Universe. McAfee has flourished as both a commentator and a wrestler, and it should excite everyone involved that he's here to stay long-term.
