Peacock Streaming Service Editing Out Certain WWE Content From Past Events

Don't expect the way the new Peacock streaming service from NBC offers up WWE pay-per-views like WrestleMania 37 to be the only change to how content on the WWE Network is/was viewed.

While there were some complaints about the delay in the broadcast of WWE Fastlane and that there is no rewind feature during live events, WWE and Peacock have already announced they'll be working on making the viewing experience better for wrestling fans. It's not the only change Peacock is making.

PWinsider.com has noted that fans are pointing out edits to older WWE content from various past events. A couple examples include the WrestleMania 6 event where Roddy Piper took on Bad News Brown and Piper painted himself half-black. Peacock has also removed the controversial Survivor Series incident in 2005, when Vince McMahon used the “n” word in a conversation with Booker T. Both seem like obvious changes to make considering today's social landscape and these likely won't be the only changes made.

There was a ton of content during the Attitude Era and during the early years of WWE going national where race, discrimination and culture and just plain questionable storylines were front and center topics. WWE often crossed the line and logic would dictate that Peacock will want to remove a ton of that footage from anything they make available to subscribers.

And, for those wondering, the same questionable material did appear on the WWE Network versions of those shows.

The Right Decision

There's no good reason to keep things like that in old productions from WWE. While it was never ok, it is widely less acceptable to make the same comments that appear in some of the old footage. It's wise Peacock get on top of this now instead of waiting for fans to address their concerns and ask why it was not removed.

As for the current product? Hopefully Peacock won't need to edit much of what's being offered by WWE.
