Pride of the South brewed in Auckland

The pride of the South - Speight's beer - is actually brewed in Auckland and Christchurch.

New Zealand Breweries Ltd will this week start changing labelling on Speight's beer - labelling which claims the beer is brewed in Otago.

The company has decided not to pursue its legal challenge to a Commerce Commission decision that Speight's labelling was misleading consumers on where the beer is actually brewed.

The Commerce Commission says New Zealand Breweries Ltd will make corrections to its advertising, labelling and merchandising.

The "Traditionally brewed at Speight's Brewery Dunedin since 1876" beer labels will read: "Traditional brewers of fine ales since 1876".
