Re-Casting The Main Characters 10 Years Later
Inception is now over a decade old. The cast was a highlight but if it were remade with talented actors from today, it would look quite different.
2010's Inception was one of the biggest movies of the decade, and this classic Christopher Nolan flick was only made more memorable by its star-studded cast. While it's hard to think of anyone but Leonardo DiCaprio taking the lead role, the acting game has certainly changed in the past decade.
If this movie was rebooted or made in the decade of 2020. there would likely be a very different cast. It's time to think of some of the newest and biggest names of today and see if they could make the cut for the cast of this hit thriller drama.
10 Eames: Oscar Isaac
After he was Eames, Tom Hardy really only continued to shine in Hollywood. Still, he's definitely moved on to playing some more mature roles - but that doesn't mean fans still don't love the sarcasm and wit that he offered as Eames.
Eames is a smooth-talker, and he's pretty confident and outgoing. However, he's also a bit reserved and can buckle down to solve any problem. Oscar Isaac blew fans out of the water as the charismatic Poe Dameron in the newest Star Wars trilogy, and he would also likely fit right into this role.
9 Stephen Miles: Stanley Tucci
There isn't really a movie directed by Christopher Nolan without a Michael Caine appearance, but it's time for him to pass the torch. Stephen Miles is Mal's father, and he's a blunt man with a lot of wit and intelligence.
Stanley Tucci has the charisma, charm, and sarcastic humor that would allow him to perfectly takeover Michael Caine's role as Stephen Miles. The character is really there to guide Cobb, and he'd be fun to watch doing so.
8 Saito: Idris Elba
Ken Watanabe brought Saito to the big screen in a mysterious, powerful, and intriguing manner. This character is as wealthy and powerful as they come, and this businessman needs someone just as fiery as Watanabe to play him.
Idris Elba is one of the most intriguing and devilishly handsome actors of today. He's played just every kind of role, so this rich and ambitious character shouldn't be an obstacle for him. Elba could be tricky and determined, doing well to bring Saito back to life on the big screen.
7 Mal: Emilia Clarke
Marion Cotillard was the beautiful and mesmerizing Mal, and she knocked the role out of the park. If she was to pass on the part, there isn't anyone as well-loved as Emilia Clarke. She can be quirky and funny, but she can also be sultry and fascinating. Everyone knows she can play an intelligent and powerful character, and Mal could easily be one of them.
If Marion Cotillard was going to give her crown to anyone, the Mother of Dragons could easily be a good choice. Everyone would love to see Emilia Clarke take on this beautiful character and her slow descent into madness in the midst of love and romance.
6 Yusuf: Riz Ahmed
Yusuf's humor and determination were brilliantly portrayed by Dileep Rao. This character usually stays calm, but he's a bit more anxious than the rest. He's a bit of an oddball, and definitely has his quirks.
Riz Ahmed just exploded in the movie business for his starring and Oscar-nominated role in Sound of Metal. This talented and versatile actor knows how to perfectly balance seriousness with lighthearted stuff, and he would be the perfect sidekick for the rest of the group.
5 Robert Fischer: Steven Yeun
Before he was Thomas Shelby or the Scarecrow, Cillian Murphy was Robert Fischer. He played the role well, of course, but this rich and mysterious character could easily pass the torch to Steven Yeun.
Whether fans know him from The Walking Dead or Minari, he has proven that he can be the cool cucumber that is serious and ambitious. Fans could dive deep into his complicated relationship with his father, and Yeun would have all eyes on him for sure.
4 Ariadne: Florence Pugh
Elliot Page definitely had their time in the spotlight after they scored this leading role, and it's difficult to imagine any intelligent and upcoming actor take their place. Ariadne is curious and ambitious, but she is also extremely intelligent and emotionally perceptive.
Florence Pugh has been making waves in Hollywood over the past few years and has dazzled in thrillers and dramas, and action flicks. She's mesmerizing on screen, but she's also able to be serious and passionate. This talented young actress could do the role of Ariadne justice.
3 Maurice Fischer: Giancarlo Esposito
Robert's pretty unlikeable father, Maurice, was a gut-wrenching character played masterfully by Pete Postlethwaite. He has an openly strained relationship with his son, and he's certainly headstrong and overly ambitious.
Giancarlo Esposito is a pretty great actor at playing the villain, and he's known for being slightly frightening. While this role is Maurice's final moments, Esposito could bring fans in just as easily as he could shut them out again.
2 Arthur: Tom Hiddleston
Joseph Gordon-Levitt was smooth, witty, and totally infatuating with his role as Arthur. This character is charming, sharp-witted, and pretty hard not to fall in love with on the big screen. There's no one that could fit that bill better than Tom Hiddleston.
One of the most beloved actors of today, he could easily play the intelligent and mysterious Arthur in this classic flick. Hiddleston is the kind of talented and handsome guy that could do it just as well as Gordon-Levitt. He's proved he can play any character perfectly.
1 Cobb: Robert Pattinson
Again, it's pretty hard to do better than Leonardo DiCaprio. However, this young, genius, and ambitious man in love is a character that is truly timeless - and could be redone today. And there might not be a better candidate than Robert Pattinson.
Not only did he just star in Nolan's newest flick, Tenet, but Pattinson has also shown the world that he can deliver in just about any role thrown his way. He has the charm and the wit, but he's also mysterious and could definitely play a slightly unhinged character. DiCaprio would also likely be proud to pass the role to him.
