[Report] Backstage Details On Ronda Rousey's WWE Contract Status

It's been two years since Ronda Rousey last competed in the WWE.

Rousey's last match took place at WrestleMania 35 on Apr. 7, 2019. She squared off against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match for the Raw and SmackDown Women's Championships. Lynch won the match by pinning Rousey.

Earlier this week, WWE president Nick Khan stated that both Rousey and Lynch will eventually return to the company.

Dave Meltzer provided some details on Rousey's WWE contract status in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. For starters, he stated that her deal with the company expired "this past week," although it may have been frozen.

Meltzer believes that Rousey was initially scheduled to return at WrestleMania 35 in Los Angeles. However, WWE relocated this year's show to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida. As a result of the change, Los Angeles will host WrestleMania 38 on Apr. 3, 2022.

Meltzer stated "it's the same reason why" the dream match between Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Roman Reigns didn't happen this year. It's going to have to take place with a full crowd in attendance "and preferably Los Angeles", per Meltzer.

Regarding Lynch, Meltzer reported that we could see her return during WrestleMania 37 weekend. You can read more about it here.

Rousey began working with the WWE full time in Jan. 2018. She showed up at the end of the women's Royal Rumble match and entered a feud with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Rousey teamed up with Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in her WWE debut match at WrestleMania 35, where they went on to defeat Triple H and McMahon.

Lynch vs. Rousey Part II?

Rousey was a valuable part of the WWE roster during her one-year run with the company. She worked extremely well with other main event stars, especially Lynch. One has to assume that we'll see a rematch down the road, especially considering that Rousey lost at WrestleMania 35 in controversial fashion. It's unclear when Rousey will be back, but another showdown with Lynch feels like a safe bet to happen.
