Ronda Rousey Is The Voice Of Sonya Blade In Mortal Kombat 11

It was announced during this week's Mortal Kombat 11 reveal that Ronda Rousey is the voice of iconic character Sonya Blade in this latest chapter of the franchise.

The world of wrestling and video games are ones that tend to overlap quite often. Not just via WWE 2K's annual offering, but in other ways too. You need look no further than the likes of Xavier Woods and Kenny Omega for examples of that. The former has his very own gaming channel on YouTube which boasts an impressive 1.7 million subscribers.

Earlier this week, a different kind of wrestling/video game crossover was announced. During Mortal Kombat 11's official reveal, which took place across Los Angeles and London, Ronda Rousey was unveiled as the voice of Sonya Blade. Blade was one of the seven characters on the very first Mortal Kombat game, and the franchise's first female fighter.

The news was broken via a video package featuring Blade going to work on her rivals. For those familiar with Rousey, her voice would have been instantly recognizable. However, if you didn't pick up on that right away, the Raw Women's Champion was revealed on-screen moments later. Rousey spoke of her love for the Mortal Kombat franchise ever since she first played it as a child.

After the clip, the host welcomed Rousey out onto the stage where she discussed her connection with Blade a little more. The Rowdy One wasn't the only one in attendance at the game's reveal either. Cody and Brandi Rhodes both received invites, and Zelina Vega, Kofi Kingston, and Woods all celebrated the release of the game. Clearly, Mortal Kombat has more links with the wrestling world than you might have previously realized.

Back in the world of WWE, Rousey has an upcoming title defense to worry about. In a little more than a week's time at Royal Rumble, The Rowdy One will be defending her Raw Women's Title against Sasha Banks. We would say that it might be worth Rousey channeling some of her inner-Blade to help her battle The Boss, but that's probably not wise considering what the Mortal Kombat veteran is capable of.
