Warner Bros. has debuted the first footage of its remake of Stephen King's Salem's Lot at CinemaCon. King's 1975 horror novel of the same name centers on writer Ben Mears, who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot (known as "Salem's Lot" for short). Mears quickly learns that the residents of Salem's Lot are being hunted by and turning into vampires. King's book, which was just his second published novel at the time, would go on to be nominated for the All-Time Best Fantasy Novel in 1987.

Salem's Lot was first adapted into a two-part TV miniseries for CBS back in 1979. The series starred David Soul and was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards. Larry Cohen would direct a sequel to the miniseries in 1987, titled A Return to 'Salem's Lot. In 2004, TNT premiered a new TV adaptation of King's novel starring Rob Lowe, which would also end up receiving a Primetime Emmy nomination. Now, a brand new film adaptation of Salem's Lot is in the works.

Warner Bros. debuted the first footage from its adaptation of Salem's Lot at this year's CinemaCon event taking place in Las Vegas. Screen Rant was on hand to watch the trailer, which offers an eerie first look at the upcoming horror movie. Check out the full footage description below:

"Moody shot of forest. Group of men looking for a missing person. He's not the first boy to go missing. Then we see a man digging up a grave. Suddenly a pounding from inside the casket. He looks down the hole and then a small vampire child runs up behind him and bites him. The shots of the vampires, they look very pale and have weird glowing eyes. Slowly the town turns until there's vampires everywhere. The man runs into the street and the town is deserted. Someone calls his name to warn him and he looks back in the direction he came from. Then the camera pans back and we see the street and building's lined with glowing eyes vampires."

Salems-Lot-Vampires

Despite plenty of previous adaptations, New Line Cinema announced back in 2019 that they were making a brand new film based on King's book, with Insidious, The Conjouring and Malignant director James Wan set to produce the project. The new Salem's Lot is set to star Lewis Pullman as lead character Ben Mears, alongside Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark, and Alfre Woodard. The Salem's Lot adaptation is being directed by Gary Dauberman, who also helped to write the screenplay for two other recent film adaptations of King's most famous novels, those being 2017's It and 2019's It: Chapter Two. Atomic Monster Productions and Vertigo Entertainment are also producing the project.

The CinemaCon footage of Warner Bros' new Salem's Lot adaptation is sure to please horror fans, as well as those familiar with King's iconic work. The atmosphere and setting feel true to the source material while also offering an unique perspective on it. Although it doesn't appear as if King was heavily involved in the project, besides his penning of the source novel, this footage description is both appropriately riveting and eerie, nonetheless. Salem's Lot is currently scheduled to hit theaters on September 9, 2022. The film will be streamed on HBO Max 45 days after its theatrical release.
