A retail theft at Sawgrass Mills Mall alarmed shoppers, but according to police, it has disproven rumors that there was an active shooter inside.

According to Sunrise Police, there was a “smash and grab” at the mall on Sunday night, and the sound of smashing glass caused people to be afraid.

While at the mall, a 7News viewer reported hearing shouts of a shooter but not hearing any gunfire.

It’s unclear if any mall merchants shuttered throughout the turmoil.
