Following the crossover spectacle of Spider-Man: No Way HomeKirsten Dunst said she would love to join Marvel's multiverse and reprise her role as the Mary Jane opposite Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. Dunst debuted as Peter Parker's love interest in the original 2002 film, starring alongside Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin and James Franco as Harry Osborn. Coming from director Sam Raimi, Spider-Man brought Stan Lee's teenage hero to the big screen. Since then, the character has been the focus of three separate film franchises, including Marvel's latest offering.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland, has already broken box office records with its cameo-filled multiversal adventure. Not only is No Way Home a fan-favorite for this year's Oscars, but the movie has earned one of the top spots on the all-time box office leaderboard. Maguire and Dafoe both returned for the movie, reuniting for the first time since Raimi's series. But the special appearances didn't end there, with other familiar Spidey universe faces like Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx, and Alfred Molina reviving old characters for the crossover event. The MCU's multiverse storyline has been introduced in grand fashion and there's no telling who will show up next.

While speaking to Backstage, Dunst joked that she's one of the last few people who hasn't made a cameo in the MCU thus far. Her excited response suggests that she would be happy to return as MJ, and is just waiting for the call. Plus, being able to pay the bills with a Marvel check would be nice according to Dunst. Read her full response below:

"You know I’d join that multiverse! I feel like I’m the only one that hasn’t joined it. I’m like, ‘Please put me in. Put me in the lineup.’ I need to pay for my house and kids."

Expanding the multiverse further with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel has an opportunity to dip into different universes at will, visiting old and new characters across various timelines. Rumors about Garfield reprising Spider-Man in upcoming films have swirled after fans fell in love with his charismatic performance in the recent movie. Dunst is ready for the call, and with Marvel's unpredictable character reprisals, the return of cinema's original MJ is possible.

As Sony and Marvel continue negotiating the rights of using Spider-Man characters in various franchises, it is unknown what the future holds for Peter Parker across every universe. No one is currently certain about if Holland will continue with the MCU, which has fans waiting in anticipation for information about the next Spider-Man film, whatever that may be. Whether Dunst can make an appearance or not is tied up in the Spider-Man contracts. For now, she and fans will have to take comfort in the fact that Spider-Man: No Way Home opened the door for all kinds of new and returning characters to pop up across the multiverse.
