Stone Cold, Undertaker, And John Cena May All Have Roles To Play At WrestleMania

WrestleMania 40 is almost upon us. Two weeks from now, we will be preparing for the SmackDown before WrestleMania, the two-night show itself beginning just one day later. This close to WWE's biggest show of the year, most, if not all, of the biggest matches have now been locked down. There's still room for more though, even if that more is left until the weekend itself, and three very big names who currently have nothing to do at WrestleMania 40 could reportedly have roles to play at the event.

Stone Cold, John Cena, And The Undertaker

That's according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), in which Dave Meltzer has claimed John Cena, Stone Cold, and Undertaker returns are on the cards for WrestleMania.

Nothing is official but the belief right now is that Steve Austin, Undertaker and John Cena will have something at WrestleMania in some form... There is no creative locked in for Cena and Austin at this moment, or if there is it’s a well-guarded secret. A lot depends on how much they are willing to do and money.

Meltzer noted that Cena is free, but what he'd be willing to do at WrestleMania will depend on what he has coming up in terms of filming. While he might be free for WrestleMania weekend itself, if he's filming a big project a week or two later, he won't want to wrestle a big match and run the risk of hurting himself and holding up work on whatever he has planned outside of the squared circle.

Austin and Undertaker's potential participation at WrestleMania 40 will ultimately depend on whether they want to do it or not. Stone Cold returned for a WrestleMania main event match two years ago, his first match of any description for 19 years, and despite how well it went, he hasn't wrestled again since. He doesn't have to wrestle at WrestleMania, of course, and could just walk in, stun someone, and leave. That's what he does best, after all.

Even more unlikely is The Undertaker wrestling a match. The Deadman retired after beating AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 and hasn't wrestled since, and without Vince McMahon to guilt him into coming back, there's very little risk he will be forced to wrestle again. Again, like Austin, if The Undertaker is going to make an appearance at WrestleMania 40, it will likely be for a segment where he hits someone with a chokeslam or tombstone piledriver.
