A loss that will be acutely felt across Jeannette will be left behind by Tay Waltenbaugh, who passed away on December 17th, 2023 at the age of 69.

Tay Waltenbaugh was a respected community leader and advocate. Born on September 9th, 1954 at Fort Benning, Georgia, he devoted his entire life to enhancing Jeannette and its surrounds

through a variety of voluntary endeavors, leaving an unmistakable legacy that will never be erased.

Tay, who was born into Southern roots himself, devoted himself fully to Jeannette as a whole and left an unfathomable footprint that cannot ever be erased by those who were affected by him or inspired by his work.

This is something that his recent passing leaves deep wounds throughout Jeannette as it feels more than it ever has before.

Tay Waltenbaugh was raised in an environment that had a significant impact on his ideals and goals.

A strong feeling of community and the importance of service were instilled in Tay during his formative years in Georgia, which ultimately led to the beginning of his extraordinary adventure.

Following the completion of his studies at Juniata College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology, Tay embarked on a career path that would not only influence but also empower a large number of people.

In particular, his important involvement in the South Sixth Street Revitalization project and the Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP) exemplifies his leadership and vision.

His role as the former CEO of Westmoreland Community Action is a prime example of his leadership and vision.

This set of measures not only enhanced the physical landscape of Jeannette, but they also strengthened the sense of community that existed there.

Tay Waltenbaugh passed away peacefully at his home in New Stanton on a December evening. He was surrounded by his devoted family at the time of his passing.

This event marked the end of a life that was distinguished by significant effect while remaining grounded in simplicity and love.

His family, as well as many members of the community, mourned his departure as he passed away. In the wake of his departure, he leaves behind work that is transformative and serves as an example of genuine community leadership.

He was the driving force behind the organization’s unparalleled growth in terms of money, services, programming, and staffing levels throughout his tenure as director.

He earned the respect and admiration of people from all walks of life in the community as a result of his unwavering commitment to alleviating poverty and assisting those who were less fortunate.

The physical changes that Tay brought to downtown Jeannette, such as the creation of the Amphitheater, which is a symbol of community unity and growth, were the manifestation of Tay’s vision.

The efforts that Tay Waltenbaugh put forth were not left unnoticed. As a result of his efforts, he was honored with a number of awards, such as the Mary Riegler-Chislaughi Friend of the Poor Award from the Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and recognition from the Greensburg/Jeannette NAACP.

Both the Top 100 People in Central Pennsylvania and Beyond honor and the Seton Hill University Entrepreneurial Excellence honor were bestowed to him, which served to further emphasize the significance of his contributions.

Additionally, Tay’s effect was further amplified by the fact that he regularly participated in charity activity, which extended beyond the scope of his professional responsibilities.
